Ted Fleming Memorial Goes To Daryl Smith

Third generation driver Daryl Smith outran Jeff Swindell and the entire field to claim the $1800 paycheck and get the biggest win of his young career.

Smith, following in his father Robert's footsteps, dropped back to seventh from his third place starting spot at the drop of the initial green. It looked like he totally missed the set up after running away with his heat win, with heat winner Jeff Swindell starting outside the front row.

The fans thought it would be all Swindell, pole sitter and 2002 East Bay Hot Shoe winner Brian Maddox lead the field to the initial green. But by the time they got through turn 2 it was fourth place starter Joe Melnick, in the C T Earle #41, painted to look like the car he drove for Ted Fleming, out front.

Melnick battled with Swindell for the first seven laps, when Daryl Smith went to the high side of the track and swept around both Melnick and Swindell.

The youngster then held off all challenges Swindell could offer up to claim the win. The happy victor hoisted the 6 ft. trophy above his head and thanked his parents Robert and Cheryl, his grandfather Willard, his car owner Ken Sands and all his sponsors. The Fleming family was on hand to present the hardware to the happy winner.

In Late Models it was Keith Nosbisch coming from the rear of the field to claim the win over Jeff Mathews, Bill Howard, David Schmauss and Devin Dixon.

Heats went to Bobby Alexander Sr. and Bobby Alexander Jr.. The Street Stock A main went to Mike Gamache over Rob Hall, Steven Johnson, Chad Smith and Bruce Harvey. Heats went to Harvey, Tim Spencer and Eric Johnson.

Bruce Watkins topped the Open Wheel Modifieds as he outran Wayne Hammond, Jim Passino, Rick Smith and Randy Shields Jr., heats went to Hammond and Watkins.

Chad Rose was the Mini Stock winner over Rick Partridge, Kenny Rutledge, Dorsey Strickland and Rob Pope. Heats went to Ryan Mitchell and Kenny Rutledge.

The Limited Late Model main was curfewed out. Forrest Gough and Terry Bronson took Limited Late Model heat wins. The Demo was won by Robert Kissam.
