"Missileman" Wins Mini Stock Feature at Orlando SpeedWorld

It looked like the bottom was going to drop out and just
flood racers, fans, and track workers away on July 26 at
Orlando SpeedWorld but it didn't. It blew all around the
track with only a few drops of rain on the track. Good
thing with all the cars in the pits waiting to race those
engines.

The Bandoleros had a few hurt cars in heat laps but both
the #6 and #00 were repaired and back out for the feature
event looking alittle disabled but doing okay. The #63 won
the heat race with the #63 on the pole for the feature.
The #63 took the lead on the green but it was the #14
that took the lead over and lead a good deal of the race.
The #6 (one of the hurt cars from hot laps) then took over
the lead and held on to the checkers with #2 Matt Martin,
#63, #ll, and #l with the #14 in sixth after leading a
great deal of the feature.

Legends had two heats with #l and #25 winning the heats. On
the pole for the feature was the #00 but it was the #99
who jumped to the lead and held it until the #l took over
after the lst caution (no yellow thrown) when the #47 spun
and kept going. The Legends did see a red flag near the
end of the race when the #27 and #76 tangle and hit the
turns 3-4 wall hard. Both drivers were fine but the race
had to be red flagged. The #l went on to win followed by
#99, #25, #8, #00.

Mini-Cup cars saw the #3 and #42 win the heat races. The
#19 sat on the pole for the feature but it was the #ll
who jumped to the lead on the green. The #ll held on for
laps but it was the hard charging #3l who finally took
the lead and went to the checkers. Following the #31 was
#71, #3, #88 and #12.

Sportsman saw the #3 Earl Beckner and #4 Rick Johns winning
their heats. On the pole for the feature was #3 Earl
Beckner who was able to lead until the #4 of Johns came
from the rear (where he had to start because of his win
from the previous week) and took over. After that it was
Johns taking the checkers followed by #3 Earl Beckner,
#9 Kelly Jarrett, #77 Danny Shearer and #93 Bruce Gayton.

#26 Mike Murphy and #33 Ricky Wood won the heat races for
the Super Lates. Also in the field was the 26x driven by
Bobby Orr and the #5 driven by Derek Strong Derek plays
for the L.A. Clippers and has been trying to race with us
but of course the weather has not let anyone race. Welcome
to racing Derek.

On the pole for the Super Lates was #33 Ricky Wood who jumped
to the lead on the drop of the green. #5 Derek Strong spins
between turns 3 and 4 and the race is restarted. #33 Wood
goes back to the lead on the restart then the #26x Bobby
Orr and #44 Greg Brooks spin on the backstretch. The #5
of Strong has definitely got a slightly bent hood at this
point. The race restarts with Wood leading when the #45
of Mack Hanbury (the last winner in the Super Lates) spun.
The race goes green when the #14 Ronnie Roach spun while
fighting for position with #22 Larry Osteen. Both are put
to the rear of the field and the #5 spins to avoid the
spinning #14 and #22. Once again the race goes green as
#33 Woods leads with #26 Mike Murphy going side-by-side
for the lead. Woods holds strong and Murphy spins coming
off turns l and 2 trying to take the lead from Woods.
Both #33 Woods and #26 Murphy go to the rear which turns
the lead over to the #02 Jared Allison. The #26x Bobby
Orr spun in turns l and 2 and the #30 spun avoiding the
#26w. Allison holds on to the lead to take the checkers
with #54 Russ Thompson, #14 Ronnie Roach, #24 Anderson, Jr.,
and #33 Ricky Woods. (**Note Jared Allison finished the
race on 7 cylinders - lucky to finish and win)

Tim "Missileman" McPhail #7 and Bobby Orr #30 won the heat
races for the Mini Stocks. On the pole for the feature
was the #07x Steve Wagner. But when the green was thrown,
it was the mini truck of Dick Lazslo's #07 who took the
lead. The #28 Sean Bass (last week's first time feature
winner) hit the wall hard in turns 3 and 4 but Bass was
okay, the car needs some work. When the race went green
again, Lazslo still held the lead but coming up fast was
the #7 of Tim "Missileman" McPhail. McPhail held on and
took the checkers with #98 JOsh Herman, #30 Bobby Orr,
#07 Dick Lazslo, and #88 R.J. (?).

Shain Held #55 (with new car) and #34 Frank Polly won the
heat races for the Open Wheel Modifieds. Polly #34 sat
on the pole for the feature race and won from the pole.
Following Polly to the checkers was #55 Shain Held,
#2x Bobby Blake, #67 Darren Gould, and #30.

Jeff Wright #50 and Bob Wines #7b won the heat races for
the Super Stocks. The #64 Billy Cady (?) sat on the pole
for the feature event and lead until the #l Carl Peters
took over. The #6 (was the #36 of Timmie Russell last year
was driven by none other than Chad Pierce tonight who looked
really good back in a Super Stock). The #2 Ron Whaley took
a wild ride in the inside track but was able to continue.
Peters #l held the lead but it was Bobby Simcox #92 who was
determined that he had a win coming. Simcox passed Peters,
took the lead, and held on for his first win at Orlando
SpeedWorld. The #28 hit the wall hard in the last lap of
the race. The car was toast but the driver was okay.
Following Bobby Simcox to the checkers was #l Carl Peters,
#7b Bob Wines, #12 Cory Freed, and #64 Billy Caddy.

I missed the Strictly Stock heats but it was the #0
Micheal Seay on the pole for the feature event. But
it did not take the #5 Charlie Pitts to take the lead
and go on for the win. Following Pitts was #24, #10,
#38, and #20.

Next Friday night Orlando SpeedWorld will be closed but
join us in two weeks for some of the greatest short
track racing around.
