Citrus Rainouts Set Up Really Big Show Next Week

by Larry MacMillan

Inverness, Fla - After a week off and two rain outs the
promoters of Citrus County Speedway are faced with putting
together a really big make up race program that will
provide all the fast action any race fan could want, locked
into one night of racing. That of course will only come
with the cooperation of Mother Nature who has been the
winner at Citrus over the past two weeks.

The double points program for all divisions plus the
Sportsman "Citrus Truck Accessories 40" got as far as time
trials and then the bottom dropped out. Fifteen cars saw
defending champion Mike Veltman become the only driver
eek out a run in the 14 second bracket with a 14.998,
Mark Dominique ran a 15.037 and third fast qualifier was
Bill Oestreicher with a 15.078. The only car that didn't
attempt to qualify was J. D. Goff. When the 14 qualifiers
returned to the pits, the bottom dropped out and that
delayed any start of the regular heat races. At 7:05 the
night was over with the announcement that next Saturday
night will be a super night of racing and the most ex-
tensive schedule of the 2002 season.

There will be a Thursday (5 to 9 P.M.) and Friday (5 to
10 P.M.) night open practice in preparation for a make up
of last weeks Citrus "Show Down Late Model 125". This
week it will be an all green 100-lap race for Late Models
and a win purse of $3,000. Go to citruscountyspeedway.com
to get the full payoff. This will be in preparation for
the second leg of the Sunbelt Triple Crown race, set for
August 3rd. Both races will be non points races for local
Late Models and the 100 lapper will give all the prospective
participants an opportunity to fine tune it for their run
for the $5,000 win purse the following week.

Thirty plus cars are expected to make a run at qualifying
for the Triple Crown race and will probably allow for a
consi race to set up the 24 to 28-car field. The Sports-
man will make another attempt at the "Citrus Truck
Accessories 40" for $l,000 to win while the balance of the
regular divisions will be back to go for double points in
an all feature program divisions will be back to go for
double points in an all feature program to make up for
the last two rainouts. Late Models will have to reschedule
their double point make-up race, which will probably run
on the 10th of August.

Top all this action off with the return of the Figure 8's
and you will have the most aggressive racing program in
Florida. Be the good Lord willing and Mother Nature's
cooperation, it will be a show that no serious racer or
race fan will want to miss.
