Richie Henry Visits S.A.R.A. Winner's Circle At Hialeah

By Marty Little

HIALEAH, Fla. - Richie Henry took the lead from Danny Maddox on lap 41 and streaked to a very popular victory in the SARA late model 100 Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.

Maddox began the century run from the pole following the roll of the die just prior to the start and lead the 20 car field around the flat third-mile oval.

Henry tucked in line second as the field began to settle down and run single file. Joe Winchell was a man on the move as he moved up steadily from his fifth starting position.

On lap 34 Winchell and Steve Dorer made contact in turn two with Winchell being sent to the tail of the field as a result.

On lap 41 leader Maddox bobbled and Henry was alert and quickly drove to the bottom side for the lead with Dorer and Martin Pierce following.

The longer the race went the stronger Henry became, a welcome relief from all the nagging problems his RCR Oil team has suffered this season.

A series of minor spins kept the field somewhat closed up and allowed the charging Winchell to work his way back to fourth spot. On lap 67 Winchell and Pierce tangled off turn four with Pierce's car sliding into the infield.

Once again Winchell was deemed the bad guy and sent to the rear. There was no change in the top five in the late laps and with the checkers nearly in sight Winchell and Brent O'Neill got together in turn three with others also involved.

It was the end of the line for Winchell but Henry got the monkey off his back with a very popular victory before family and friends. Dorer claimed second over Pierce, Gary McGoron and Stuart Robertson.

In other events T.C. McElyea bested Steve Dielmann to win the street stock main while Tommy Styer was an easy winner over Larry Johnson in the mini stock run.

Bob Regula topped Bruce Moerlins to win the cyclone run with Sean Bulaskas topping Roger Pfau in the pure stocks. Victor Leo won the figure 8 main.

The track will be closed on July 6 for the holiday weekend with action resuming on July 13.
