James Green Tops Citrus Street Stock Special

(Inverness, Fl. 6/1/02) The month of June kicked off putting the Citrus County Speedway Street Stocks in the limelight. It paid off in lots of green for James Green in the second of their 2002 specials.

Starting in 12th spot in the 21 car line up, Green made short work of the front runners taking over the point and holding off Travis Nichols right to the checkered flag in the 40 lap event and picking up $600 for his effort.

Corky Miley was fast qualifier and started 15th on the pill draw. He made his way up to third at the midpoint in the race only to be sent to the rear after making contact with another car.

He managed to come back through the survivors to hold out for a third place finish over Mike Bell and Scott Hendrickson.

Nichols collected second fast qualifier money and Hendrickson pulled off third fast time.

Twenty-one Late Models registered and 19 took the green flag for their regular 30 lap main event. Mike Bresnahan made short work of the field and scored his 4th points win of the season moving him from third to second in the race for the Late Model crown.

Raymond Lovelady moved back to the top of the point ladder with his second place finish after starting in 9th and hooking up in the second groove.

Teddy Nelson came off the pole and slipped back to fifth before a five car accident took out four cars and moved him to a third place finish. Rex Struble moved from 12 to finish fourth over outside pole sitter Dale Sanders.

Struble fell from the top spot to third with his 4th place finish. Heat winners were Bresnahan, Danny Johnson and Struble.

Johnny Sanders came off the pole in the Sportsman feature and held on to the lead for 10 laps before Bill Oestreicher put the hammer down and found his way under Sanders to take the point and the win for his second of the year.

George Neumann and Mike Veltman followed Oestreicher under Sanders and finished in that order. Sanders held off Mark Dominique in the race for fourth. First heat winner was Terry Cater, who lost power in the first lap of the feature ending his night early.

George Neumann picked up the win in the second heat.

Robbie Yoakam started fourteenth and took eighteen laps to log his sixth trip to Victory Lane. Jimmy Bartley set the pace for the first 18 laps before giving way to Yoakam.

Phillip Joyner held out for third over Jimmy Wilson who started 16th and lost a fender in the fray. Lance Taylor recovered from an early mishap to salvage a fifth place finish from his 10th starting spot.

Heat winners were Jimmy Bartley and Robbie Yoakam. Mini Stocks return next week for a 40 lap special for $1,000 to win.

Tommy Smith continues to be the winningest driver of 2002 at Citrus. Smith chalked up his seventh win of the season and is batting .500 for the season in Hobby Stock action.

Brother Richie made a couple of half hearted runs at taking his sixth win but settled for a second place finish over Brandon Johnson, Daniel Webster and Glen Colyer. Heat wins went to Joe Rauner and Richie Smith

The young guns showed their talents in Thunder Stock action as Tim Wilson moved from 12th to the win in Thunder Stock I. Lee Keller worked his way from eleventh to second while eighth starter Terry Sharrone held on to a third place finish.

All the heat winners ran in Thunder Stock II with Dale Shelton making it from sixth to the winners circle. Michael Wilson started seventh and just couldnt make the run at the Shelton and settled for second. Point leader

Stuart Madison held out for third but lost the spot after being found illegal in tech. Wilson and Shelton were also protested but passed inspection. Larry Triana picked up third on Stuarts D.Q. and also added a heat win to his resume.

Mini Stocks take the spotlight next week with a $1,000 to win 40 lap special and a full program of Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Thunder Stocks.
