Chris Oncken Grabs Road Warrior Win At Charlotte

by Danny Snow

Scott McDaniel dominated the twenty five lap Keels-N-Wheels Pure Stock feature, sitting on the pole when the green flag dropped and holding the spot all the way to the checkers.

It wasn't all clean and green though, as the #9G of Ricky Gill (North Fort Myers) had an altercation with the #36 of Steve Schroeder (Fort Myers) in turn three, resulting in both drivers ending up with a DQ for the night. #74 Chuck Stevens (Fort Myers) started the race back in sixth and worked his way up to take second. #55 Conrad Molter (Naples) crossed the finish line in third but was later disqualified, putting #4 Wayne Wilson (Fort Myers) in third for the finish.

When the green flag dropped for the Cat Country Limited Late Model thirty five lap feature #64 Chris Libak (Fort Myers) sat on the pole. Chuck Sweet (Port Charlotte) took the #81 car to the front on the first lap of the race. By lap twenty nine #81 Sweet, #64 Libak, and #88 Randy Fox (Lehigh Acres) were just inches apart as they fought for first place. #88 Fox took the lead on lap thirty one and held position for the win. #64 Libak came in second with #107 Glenn Morris (Bokeelia) in third.

#92 Kip Bryant (North Fort Myers) had the pole for the start of the Big Wheels Mini Stock twenty five lap feature but by the end of the second lap, it was #41 Billy Ray, Jr. (Punta Gorda) out front. #56 Brian Richardson (North Fort Myers) started the race at the back of the line and had moved up to take over the lead by the fifteenth lap. #56 Richardson held on to take the win followed by #94 Keith Riginger (Fort Myers) in second and #19 Dale Dean III (Fort Myers) in third.

Fifteen cars lined the track for the W.E. Johnson Equip- ment Road Warriors twenty five lap feature with #97 Richard Dupont (Fort Myers) on the pole. #5 Bob Waltz (Cape Coral) took the early lead, but #61 Chris Oncken (Fort Myers) had his sights on the coveted checkered flag. Starting in eleventh position, Oncken made his way up through the pack to take over the lead by lap fifteen as #82 Billy Lentz (Fort Myers Beach) was also charging his way up from his fifteenth place starting position. #61 Oncken took the win with #91 Ander Jackson (Punta Gorda) in second and #82 Lentz in third.

#29 David Mayhood (Fort Myers) had the pole for the Best Coast Insurance Street Stock twenty five lap feature. Mayhood was still on point after a lap three caution for #99 Mark Collins hood flying off on the backstretch. As Mayhood drove into turn two on lap five he spun on his own, brining out the caution, and passing the lead to #56 Walt Korkiner (Cape Coral). Korkiner ran with the opportunity and held on for the win. #27 Terry Price (Port Charlotte) started the race in ninth and finished in second. #38 Joe Reese (Bonita Springs) who started in twelvth place came in third.

Starting June 5th we will be having the "Wacky Wednesday" 100 Lap Enduro with $1,000 to win. Only $5.00 admission to the grandstands for the race fans. If you have never seen an Enduro race, you don't want to miss this.
