Swindell Wins In Goodson Farms Entry At East Bay | by Ken Sands
GIBSONTON, Fla. (May 18, 2002) - Former World of Outlaws Star Jeff Swindell driving the Donn Goodson #6x started in 10th and took the lead from 16 year old Danny Martin Jr. on lap 11 and held the top spot until lap 22 when former track Champ Sport Allen took the top spot, Allen held it for just one lap before Swindell powered back around the Dayton Andrews Dodge #88 and held off the former champ to take the win.
Allen held on for second with last week's winner Daryl Smith coming home in third, Smith who was running 7th with just 3 laps to go, made some bold moves around the rest of the field to bring his Total Mobiltronics #3 to third over veteran Joe Melnick and young Danny Martin Jr.
Heats went to Roland Johnson and Brian Maddox.
In Late Models, Phillip Cobb took the lead on lap 1 and never looked back as he claimed the win in his Morgan Farms #03, Bobby Alexander Jr. in his ABC Mortgage #0, Jack Nosbisch Jr. in the Lacey Tax/Adams Used Auto Parts #12, Bill Howard in the Howard Lawn Maintenance #47 and Bobby Alexander Sr. in the Ritas Antiques/Blue Ribbon Farms #15 rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Cobb and Devin Dixon.
Terry Bronson led every lap of the Limited Late Model main and held off all challenges of new point leader William Hampton, Jeff Mathews, Rich Kessinger and John Norris. Bronson and Phillip Brower took heat wins. Jimmy Waldrop in his Johnny Doan Plumbing #51 held off current point leader Dorsey Strickland in his Johnny Doan Plumbing #21 to claim his first career win in the Mini Stock main Strickland tried every trick to get around his team mate and car owner, but Waldrop was not to be denied his first win. Chad Rose in the 7jr, Kenny Rutledge in the #36 and Rob Pope in #1 rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Strickland and Pope.
Current Point leader Mike Gamache took the lead with 3 laps to go and held on for the win in the Street Stock A main. Bryson Ryker in the #22, Rob Hall #7, Tim Hunt #9 and Wayne Hays #83 rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Jeffrey Meixner, Ron Abney and Tim Hunt. Donnie Maxwell had his Ford powered Cherrys of Plant City #5 working flawlessly as he claimed the win in the Wingless Sprints over the Ford powered #2 of Frank Beck III. Travis Bleimeister #3, Steve Briant #36 and Allen Achillich #25 rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Beck and Tim George. Don Gansner took the Street Stock B Main.
