Joe Kump Wins Late Model Feature at VSP

Barberville, Fl. - DeLand Truck Late Model - It was a
long time coming but Joe Kump made it happen Saturday
night at Volusia Speedway Park as he wheeled his #17
Late Model into Victory Lane with a green to checker
victory.

On the initial green flag, #6 Scott Singler pushed it
and ended up in the outside wall and with no where to go,
newcomer #23 Patrick Sheltra got into Signler, ending
Singler's night on the track.

By lap ll, local driver #23 Lawton Minchew drifted high
eventually surrending to the pits.

On lap 12 #4 Rick Singler was in turn 2 after a spin
facing the oncoming traffic bringing out the first
caution in the feature.

#53 John Rankin was behind winner #17 Joe Kump but #99
Brent Chilson didn't waste any time getting close and
taking second as #33 Joe Kopka was flying right into the
third spot.

After a caution on lap 13, the restart caught everyone by
surprise and #53 John Rankin got around #33 Joe Kopka
giving Rankin a third place finish and Kopka finishing
fourth.

Action Performan Street Stocks - It was wire to wire for
#007 Todd Ponce as he won again at Volusia Speedway Park.
Ponce had a strong racecar from the drop of the green
flag and it was all a battle for second on back for
20 laps.

The first caution came on lap 4 when #lk Mike Snyder had
engine trouble and was unable to wheel it into the pits.

Last week's winner #77 Dale Shade seemed to be headed back
to victory lane until his car gave way and ended his
night in the pits, giving #ll Pat Varieka a shot at the
lead.

Lap traffic and a smoking racecar didn't stop Ponce from
taking the checker ahead of #ll Pat Varieka, #22 Joe
Baker, #5 Kevin Zahnen and #77 Dale Shade.

OB's Restaurant and Lounge Hobby Stock - A couple of lead
changes, cautions and sibling rivalry didn't stop #46
Travis Gamble from taking another win at Volusia Speed-
way Park.

Before a lap got on the board, they were racing hard
going into turn l and #12 Rick Friend and #17 Bill Martin
got together. Martin ended up on his roof in turn 2.
Martin climbed out of his car on his own and the race was
under red for a few minutes while the car was uprighted
and towed to the pits. When the race resumed #01 Jimmy
Heffner took the lead but not for long as the field went
into turn l #46 Travis Gamble made his move, took the
lead and never looked back.

It was teammates and brothers battling for the top spots.
Travis and his brother #64 Trevor Gamble were bumper to
bumper to the checker. Trevor didn't give Travis any
chance to relax as he "pushed" him several laps trying
for the lead but Travis held on. Second place was a
battle between teammates #88 Dennis North and #18 Richard
Price until Price suffered engine trouble and ended up in
the pits. #19 Joe Belkey stayed with the leaders and
took the 4th spot from Price when he retired to the
pits.

Mini Stock - #6 Matt Cawood only led one lap but it was the
one that counted, the last one as he took another win at
Volusia Speedway Park.

On lap 6 fire erupted under the #69 Brad Fender Jr. it was
a couple of laps before he realized the car was on fire
and he pulled it into the pits, Fender was not hurt but
the car was done for the night.

After leading 19 laps, #9b Michael Quick got pinched off
as he went for the checker side by side with #6 Matt
Cawood. When the two leaders came out of turn four
lapped traffic got in the way and Cawood pulled out a win
leading only one lap.

Pure Stock - After a long absence, #15 Bret Weber proved
you never forget as he made it to Victory lane with his
first win and race in 6 years. Weber definitely had the
car to beat as he made it up 9 spots to the lead in 7
laps.

The race suffered several cautions and one red flag as #37
Steve Buker, after leading the first 6 laps of the race
got loose and tried to striaghten it up only to come to
rest upside down. Buker climbed out of the car and the
Safety Crew and Wrecker Crew pushed the car back over but
Buker was done for the night.
