Brian Harbin Tops Auburndale Street Stocks

Auburndale Speedway had a great night of racing, with al ot of drivers testing the strength of the walls and not coming out so good, and the Dwarf cars being the featured event of the night racing their replicas of the "Old Time" Coupes.

With 14 cars in the field, # 77 Bill Burback started from the pole and brought them to the green flag. Burback took the lead, while leading for awhile Burback slipped up and # 68 Nick Shadid goes to the inside to take the lead but only briefly as the caution came out for # 11 Jim Harrison spinning in turn 3 and they went back to the last completed lap putting Burback back up front.

On the restart, it was Burback, Shadid, # 73 Zane Davis, # 71 Ron Towles, and # 12 Dennis Archinal, Shadid goes to the outside of Burback trying for the top spot but Burback held off the challenge and took the win, Nick Shadid 2nd and Zane Davis 3rd.

The 4-cyl Bomber class had even more cars this week making it more exciting for us fans to watch, # 96 Larry Chumney II started on the front row, and took the lead from the drop of the green flag, # 27 Dewayne Guy in 2nd, and # 3 Terry Jones running 3rd.

Keith Shirah # 21 battles with # 1 David Jouppi for the 5th spot with Jouppi making the pass for the spot, single file racing for awhile until the leader gets into heavy lapped traffic, meanwhile # 43 Kevin Lumley spins out # 38 Jerry Wingfield in turn 4 bringing out the caution, restart Chumney, Dewayne Guy, Jones, # 31 Donnie Guy, and Jouppi.

Caution flies again after # 5 Ivan Davis and Wingfield get together and hit the turn 2 wall pretty hard, but both drivers were alright, with only a couple laps to go on the restart, Larry Chumney II wins with Dewayne Guy 2nd, and Terry Jones 3rd.

Bringing the V-8 Street Stocks for their start was # 40 Mike Pitts and # 00 Rodney Peterson, Pitts took the lead with Peterson behind him, # 99 Jason Deaton and # 8 Ron Reed battle side-by-side for the 3rd spot # 65 Brian Harbin running 5th and # 51 Mark Lowe 6th, meanwhile # 38 Jason Stifle pulls in with mechanical problems, and # 66 Wesley Harbin spins in turn 2 but no caution.

Deaton falls back to battle with Brian Harbin for 4th and # 16 David Purvis goes to the inside of Lowe for 6th with 3-wide racing some get shuffled back a few spots and the top 5 at half way are Pitts, Peterson, Reed, Brian Harbin and Purvis, Purvis goes to the outside of Harbin for 4th and Deaton battles back for the 6th spot with Lowe, caution flies and bunches up the field Peterson running 2nd pulls in moving Deaton into the top 5, Deaton goes under Purvis for 4th, top 5 into lapped traffic and Purvis challenges for the 4th spot but Deaton holds him off, Mike Pitts takes the win with Ron Reed 2nd! and Brian Harbin 3rd.

After post race inspections # 40 Mike Pitts and # 8 Ron Reed were disqualified for their springs, giving the win to # 65 Brian Harbin, and moving # 99 Jason Deaton and # 16 David Purvis into 2nd and 3rd place.

The Mini-Stocks had 13 cars in the feature race and # 88 Burt Morse took the lead from the start, # 87 Bobby Judah running 2nd, and # 97 Brian Dorer 3rd Donnie Howell # 01 got under # 99 Jamie Kennedy for 5th, # 9 Robbie Storer took the lead from Morse with only a hand full of laps in the books, Dorer got underneath Judah for the 3rd spot, but again Robbie Storer took the win Burt Morse 2nd and Brain Dorer 3rd.

The 18 car Super Stock class was jam packed with action # 34 Jeff McCaw started from the pole, and took the lead with # 80 Dustin Breeden inside of # 12 David Williamson for 2nd with # 13 Aaron Williamson following to the top 3 meanwhile # 9 Johnny Gamble slows on the track and caution comes out, top 5 were McCaw, Breeden, D.Williamson, A.Williamson, and # 63 Chris Kingham. On the restart McCaw starts spreading his lead out and Breeden running 2nd slows on the frontstretch losing several spots, and moving # 42 Bubba Edwards into the top 5. Scott Gullett stops on the track bringing out another caution and David Williamson goes to the rear of the field for the restart but pulls in after the seal on his rear-end started leaking fluid moving # 40 Robert Eddy into the top 5. Edwards got to the inside of Kingham for 3rd and # 62 Travis Wilson taps # 2 Paul Gibbs to bring out a caution both go to the rear, restart Eddy got Kingham sideways and passed him for the 4th spot Gibbs comi! ng back from starting in the rear passes # 97 Adam King for 6th on the last lap but nobody could challenge Jeff McCaw and he takes the checkereds with Aaron Williamson 2nd, and Bubba Edwards 3rd.

LLM had alot of clean-up after this race was over with, # 1 Bart Weatherford brought them to the green flag with # 00 Ronnie Heard on the outside front row, Weatherford got the lead, Heard 2nd and # 28 Tim Gullett running 3rd goes into turn 3 and never turns and goes straight toward the wall making slight contact # 55 Richard Elkins Jr. had some cosmetic damage to his car and caution comes out. Restart top 5 Weatherford, Heard, # 65 Ollie Harbin, # 63 Wesley Bass, and # 45 Sam Cressman # 54 Steve Black blows a motor going into turn 3 and collects # 71 Dave Dunkin and Richard Elkins after they slide in the oil and collide, both have damage but return after repairs from the pits. After a lengthy clean-up the race continues but Cressman falls off the pace with the motor breaking up, and Dunkin takes advantage and moves around Cressman for 5th Heard slips up and Harbin takes 2nd, Bass tries to follow but Heard closes the door and they get together and slide up to the wall ! in turn 4 bringing out the last caution of the race. Restart with 6 laps to go Bart Weatherford holds on to take 1st, Ollie Harbin 2nd and with Bass and Heard wrecking that moved Dave Dunkin up to 3rd.

On May 25th the Monster truck "Gunslinger" will be at Auburndale, so mark your calenders for that in a few weeks. Hope all the Mothers had a great Mothers Day weekend. Racing starts at 7:00 pm
