The Action Heats Up at New Smyrna Speedway

Samsula, Fl - Not too much to cool the race fans or racers
at New Smyrna Speedway. July weather in May makes it a
very hot afternoon and evening. But even the heat index
did not keep fans or racers away.

Heats and features were on the schedule for May 4th. The
Mini Cup cars made their first appearance with the #3
winning the first heat race and the #17 winning the
second heat race. On the pole for the feature was
the #12 but it was the #17 who took the lead and lead
most of the laps until the #8 took over putting the
#17 to second followed by #71, #3, and #44 taking
the checkers in the top five positions.

It was back to back wins for Justin Henderson #16 Open
Wheel Modified. Not only did he win the heat race but
he lead wire to wire to take the feature event. Starting
on the pole for the feature was Brad May #00. But
it was the black and yellow #16 jumping to the lead
and holding off #00 Brad May, #2x David Rogers, #5
Steve White and #25 Buck. No cautions came out during
the feature event.

David Castello #1 also took back to back wins in both
the heat race and feature. On the pole was the #7
Tim "Missileman" McPhail who took the lead from the
drop of the green. Since Castello won last week, he
had to start in the rear of the field but quickly
worked his way to the third place position following
McPhail and #71 Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulipus. Only
one caution came out for the #23 Wayne Wells and #9AR
Charlie Staats who spun and ended up right next to
each other in turns 1 and 2. Both Mini Trucks pitted,
repaired and return to the track. Following Castello
to the checkered was #7 Tim McPhail, #71 Ted Vulipus,
#01 Conrad Grenier, and #23 Wayne Wells.

David Rogers #11 took the heat win for the Super Lates
but it was the #27 Mike Good on the pole for the
feature event. Good was able to get the lead from
the drop of the green and hold off the rest of the
field. Only one caution came out for the #51 Jacob
Warren who spun coming out of turn 4 and Sammy Graham
#5 who had no place to go but directly into Warren.
Nose to nose contact was made between the two cars
but the drivers were fine. Good took the checkered
with #11 David Rogers, #56 Michael Skaggs, #3 Wayne
Parker (with his brand new Super Late) and #2 Craig
Reynolds.

Mike Wieczoreck #30 and Ron Whaley #2 won the heat
races for the Super Stocks. On the pole for the
feature event was the #2 Whaley but it was the #30
Wieczoreck who jumped to the lead on the green.
But Whaley was on a roll and passed Wieczoreck for
the lead and never let go. Following Whaley across
the start/finish line for the checkered was #211
Good, #32 Jim Stacy, #45 Mike Soukup and #30 Mike
Wieczoreck.

Brian Bellaw #77 showed the way to the checkered in
the heat race for the Late Model division. Bellaw
also sat on the pole for the feature event but it
was the new #36 Tim Russell, son of David Russell,
making his first appearance in his new Late Model
that took the lead from Bellaw and never let go.
Bellaw was able to hold on to the second place
position until he developed a mechanical problem
and had to pit for the night. Only one caution
in the feature event for the #7 Buck who spun.
Russell took the checkered with #11 Jeremy Fitch,
#5 Sammy Graham, #8 Tim Clark and #8B Cynthia
Strahley.

Randy Hecker #62 and Donnie Williams #111 were the
heat winners for the Sportsman division. On the
pole for the feature event was the #28 Chris Pedulat
but it was the #30 Dale Clouser who quickly jumped
to the lead. Clouser was able to maintain his lead
until his car started to overheat and had to pit for
the night turning the lead over to #111 Williams.
Following Williams to the checkered was #04 Bobby
Ranaldi, #62 Randy Hecker, #28 Chris Pedulat and
#3 Marty Wolf.

Travis Scott #62 and Tim Edmundson #66 were the
heat winners for the Strictly Stock. The #27
sat on the pole but it was the #48 David Smith
who jumped to the lead and never let go. Following
Smith was #62 Travis Scott, #27, #66 Tim Edmundson,
and #65 James Smith.

Next week, May 11th, the Goodyear Challenge Late Model
Series 100 plus racing in all divisions but Super Lates.
