Teddy Dufree Takes The Win In Florida Midgets At Charlotte County Speedway

By Danny Snow

The Big Wheels 4x4 Mini Stocks got the night's racing action underway with their twenty lap feature race. #11X Tim Miller Jr. had the pole for the drop of the green flag. #41 Billy Ray Jr. took the lead on the first lap and held it for four more laps before #56 Brian Richardson moved into the top spot. Richardson took the win with #41 Ray in second and #19 Dale Dean III in third.

The Best Coast Insurance Street Stocks were up next for their twenty five lap feature with #16 Wally Smith on the pole. Smith and #31X Elbert Butts (Nocatee) ran door to door for three laps while #99 Mark Collins (Cape Coral) looked for a way around them. By lap twelve #27 Terry Price (Punta Gorda) had made his way up to take the lead and #84 Bill Vandevender (Cape Coral) moved into second after starting the race at the tail end of the pack. #27 Price went on to win the race with Vandevender in second and #31X Elbert Butts in third.

#12 Mark Ross sat on the pole for the start of the Super Mini Cups Florida Division's twenty five lap feature, but by the end of the first lap #3 Brian Etty had taken the lead. The lead changed for the last time on lap seven as #17 Doug Smith took the point and held on tight. #70 Brett Jameson moved into second place on lap eighteen with a slick down low pass under #3 Etty. #17 Smith took the checkered flag with #70 Jameson in second and #3 Etty in third.

Eleven cars lined the track for the CLW Construction Open Wheel Modified thirty five lap feature with #2 Kevin Brickley (Estero) on the pole. #31 Kurt Riley (Cape Coral) took the lead on the first lap. #25 Scott Kleiber (Naples), #8 Kent McLean, (North Fort Myers) and #6 Kevin Williams (Port Charlotte) battled it out for second, third, and fourth until lap thirteen when #25 Kleiber moved into second. #31 Riley and Kleiber had left the rest of the pack behind and Kleiber was trying to take the lead by lap eighteen when the caution flag flew for a wreck in turn two. #31 Riley had the point for the restart but #25 Kleiber took it away going into turn three. Kleiber won the race with Riley in second and #6 Williams in third.

Next to take the track was the Florida Midgets with #52 Joey McKinney(Bradenton)on the pole. McKinney took a slow and easy spin on the first lap bringing out a caution as #1 Jack Duffy (Sarasota) took the lead. Duffy had a full straight away lead by lap six when #25 Ernie Teed (Sarasota) blew an engine, leaving a line of oil for the all volunteer broom crew to clean up. #52 McKinney came back to retake the lead on the restart and held on for thewin. #4 Teddy Dufree came in second and #1 Duffy took third.

#14 Randy Layman (Lehigh Acres) sat on the pole for the Thunder Trucks twenty five lap feature. #85 Michael Macho (North Fort Myers) took the early first place position and was holding on with a good lead. Unfortunately, he had to deal with lapped traffic on the nineteenth lap and ended up with a flat tire, dashing his hopes for a first place finish. #16 James Wright (Naples) had the pole for the restart, but not for long, as #24 Justin Bryant (Arcadia) took the lead just one lap later. Bryant took the win with #22 John Garrett (Fort Myers) in second and #37 Cheryl Weaver (Port Charlotte) came in third after starting from the last row on the inside of the sixteen starters.

The Collier Electric Sportsman division ran the final feature of the night and #63 Ryan Malone had the pole for the start of the race. #37 Jeremy Goddard took the lead on the sixth lap as #76 Joe Reese and #22 Danny Yates were making their way up from the back of the pack. Reese was in second place by lap thirteen and took the lead on lap twenty eight with Yates following right behind him. #76 Reese held his position for the win as #22 Yates came in second and #37 Goddard took third.
