Charlotte County Speedway Race Results 4/20/02

by Ronnie Bacelo
Punta Gorda, Fla - A full house Saturday night with 117 cars
packed into Charlotte County Speedway and it was the CLW
Open Wheel Modified taking to the track with qualifying
and it was Kevin Williams (Port Charlotte) with the fastest
lap of the evening at a 15.703. When the checkered flag
dropped it was Williams ahead at the stripe being chased
by Kurt Riley (Cape Coral). Riley and Kleiber would race
side by side for many laps only to wear out Kleibers Mount
as he faded to fourth spot. Steve Duerr(Cape Coral) would
come home with a steady performance ahead of Kleiber
(Naples) and Kent McLean (Ft. Myers).

The Best Coast Street Stocks saw Doug Spitzer (Ft. Myers)
take home his first win of the season in fine fashion
ahead of Eric Smith (Ft. Myers), Joe Reese (Ft. Myers),
Tip Over Terry Price (Punta Gorda) and Joe Butler (Lehigh).
Point Leader Billy Vandevender (Cape Coral) would be
posted in the ninth postion at race end. Walt Korkiner
would be back after his brief vacation. Heat Winners
were Butler and Price.

The Kels N Wheels Pure Stock Machines saw 15 cars take
the green, but it was Wayne Wilson (Ft. Myers) the victor
ahead of chargin Taz Sidock (Cape Coral), Mad Dawg Conrad
Molter (Ft. Myers), Dennis Hale (Punta Gorda) and L.B.
Skaggs (Ft. Myers) rounded out the top five. John Boyer
would be the first car listed on the injured list after
contact with Wilson. Heat Winners were John Hannuschik
and Molter.

In the W.E. Johnson Road Warriors original winner Andy
Wood (Ft. Myers) would be tossed from post race tech
giving Honkin' Chris Oncken yet another victory this
season. Chasing Oncken was Clete Trimmer (Punta Gorda)
Chris Huntoon (Ft. Myers), Trey Almand (Punta Gorda) and
Jim Bachmann (Naples). Heat winners were Gary Miller and
the steadily improving rookie Ander Jackson.

Cheryl Weaver (Punta Gorda) was the best truck as she out
classed the field enroute to her first win this season.
Chasing Weaver was John Garrett (Ft. Myers). The
controversial Big Brown Truck of Gene Pack (Punta Gorda),
Consistent Justin Bryant (Ft. Myers) and Michael Macho
(Punta Gorda). Sixteen trucks signed in for the night
and the heat wins went to Weaver and Randy Layman in the
lone step side.

The Mod Lite Visitors had a repeat winner as Brian Paradis
was the fastest Suzuki to the stripe ahead of Mark Landis,
Alain Paradis, Brian Gingras and Jim Harrison. Heat
winners were Todd Hart, Harrison and Brian Paradis.

Homasassa's Ken Curley bested the rest of the field in the
Pro Challenge division. Rod Sanders would come home second
in the nine car field. Sanders would capture the lone
heat race win.

Xtreme Series saw nobody want to cross the line first as
the object of the event was to finish second to take home
the win and it was Tip Over Terry Price (Punta Gorda) the
victor in the Second Over the Line event. Gren Anderson
(Punta Gorda) was second with Chris Huntoon (Ft. Myers)
third. The Xtreme Series seems to be picking up a little
as several of our drivers from other divisions said to be
preparing cars for this novelty division.

The Florida Midgets will make their debut to the Speedway
this week along with the CLW Construction Open Wheel
Modifieds, Collier Electric Sportsman, Best Coast Insurance
Street Stocks, Big Wheel 4x4 Mini Stocks and the ever so
popular Thunder Trucks! Gates open at 4, qualifying at
6, and racing gets underway at 7 P.M.
