Ken Curley Takes Pro Challenge Series Win at Charlotte County Speedway

By Danny Snow

Lake Park's own #31 Ken Curley sat on the pole for the Pro
Challenge Series twenty lap feature and rocketed out for
an early lead. #1 Rod Sanders of Ft. Myers had made his
way up to take over third by lap seven. #31 Curley
held on for the win with #1 Sanders in second and #12
(driver unknown) in third.

The twenty five lap Mod Lites Division feature got underway
with #40 Alain Paradis on the pole but by the end of the
first lap it was #68 Brian Paradis out front. #22 Mark
Landis tried to take the lead for much of the race but
#68 Paradis just wasn't about to give it up. #68 Paradis
took the win with #22 Landis in second and #40 Paradis
in third.

#14 Randy Layman of Lehigh Acre sat on the pole for the
Thunder Trucks twenty five lap feature. As the green flag
dropped and the thunder rolled, #85 Michael Macho of N. Ft.
Myers took the lead. White the #85 of Macho took a full
straight away lead over the rest of the pack, trucks were
running four wide, swapping paint and jockeying for
position until a caution for debris on lap eight brought
them all back together. #00 Ronnie Grimes moved into
second place on the restart and was in the lead by lap
seventeen. #37 Cheryl Weaver of Port Charlotte had
made her way up from the back of the pack to be in second
by lap twenty one as #22 John Garrett from Ft. Myers was
also making his way up. #37 Weaver took the lead on lap
twenty three and held on for the win. #22 Garrett came
in second and #88 Gene Pack of Grove City came in third
after also starting in the back of the field.

#31 Kurt Riley came from Cape Coral to sit on the pole
for the CLW Construction Open Wheel Modifieds thirty five
lap feature. #25 Scott Kleiber of Naples ran door to
door with Riley lap after lap trying to take the lead as
#6 Kevin Williams of Port Charlotte held third. The
top three cars were just inches apart for five laps before
#25 Kleiber scraped the wall on lap fifteen and fell back
to fourth. #6 Williams took the lead and the win with
#31 Riley in second and #93 Steve Duerr of Ft. Myers in
third.

The W.E. Johnson Equipment Road Warriors twenty five lap
began with #9 Gary Miller of Englewood on the pole but
by lap two it was #87 Andy Wood out front. As Wood is
making his way through lapped trafic, #0 Clete Trimmer
of Ft. Myers was also pushing through the field to move
into second and #61 Chris Oncken of Ft. Myers was battling
his way up from the back of the pack. #87 Wood took the
checkered flag but was disqualified in tech. #61 Oncken
came in first with #0 Trimmer in second and #30 Chris
Huntooon of Englewood in third.

#2 David Fischer from Naples sat on the pole for the Best
Coast Insurance Street Stocks twenty five lap feature.
#11 Doug Spitzer of Cape Coral was a man with a plan as
he took the lead on lap three and never let it go. #31
Elbert Butts of Nocatee had been running a strong second
but landed in the pits with a flat tire, ending his hopes
for a top finish. #11 Spitzer took the win with #10 ERic
Smith of Bonita Springs in second and #38 Joe Reese,
also from Bonita Springs, in third.

The final feature of the night was the Keels and Wheels
Pure Stocks with #19 Scott McDaniel on the pole. By
the end of the first lap it was #68H John Hanuschik of
Cape Coral in the top spot. #4 Wayne Wilson of Ft. Myers
took to the inside of Hanuschik on lap ten looking to
take the lead but it didn't happen just yet. Wilson made
it to the front on lap fifteen and held position to take
the win. #9 Taz Sidock of Cape Coral in second and #55
Conrad Molter of Naples in third.
