Michael Williams Takes Pro Mod Tour Win at Orlando SpeedWorld

Michael Williams, in a brand new modified that
South Forty just got, went out and set fast time of 14.074
for the Pro Modified Tour race. After the pill was drawn,
Bobby Blake #75 sat on the poll.

Twenty five of Florida's best modifieds came for the event
but the #57 of Jim "Hoot" Flynn had mechanical problems
and was not able to compete. Among the drivers were
Brad May in the #00, Rob Underwood in the #09, Andy
Saffioti in the #1, #66 Jerry Symons, #15 Tank Tucker,
#2x Jason Boyd, and many others.

Bobby Blake was able to hold on to the lead for a few
laps but it was the #40 of Michael Williams that took
the lead position and was able to hold on after every
restart for the win. Jerry Symons's car seemed to overhead
and he took it into the pits but did not lose a lap and
returned but had problems again and had to retire.
Skip Honaker #2 was doing a nice job of moving up but
had a little unexpected visit with the frontstretch wall
and retired. In the end, it was Michael Williams doing
donuts on the frontstretch and a very happy crew running
out to Victory Lane. Top five were #40 Michael Williams,
#75 Bobby Blake, #32, #15 Tank Tucker and #2x Jason Boyd.

Two new Bandolero cars joined the field tonight but it
was a "first" win for young Matt Martin #2. Martin took
the lead from the beginning and was able to hold on even
with a few restarts. Following #2 Matt Martin was #63
Dalton Zehr, #5 Eric Needs, #21 Kory Abbott and #60
Chad Adkins. #6 Patrick Conrad was the heat winner.

The Classic Auto Racing Series had a number of cars in
the field with the #42 (South Forty Car) and #5 of
Jim Rahman taking the heat wins. Mike Samples #0 was
not able to even join in the heat races due to a "ghost"
that invaded his car. MIke said "Wednesday night I came
to practice and the car ran great. It ran so good that
I did not do anything to do after practice." But when
Mike took his car out of the trailer for hot laps, it
would not even go up the pit entrance road. Sorry Mike,
we need that ghost to leave. Winning the feature was
#5 Jim Rahman, #74 Ed Yates, #42, #4x Eddie Thornton,
and #17. Dave Westerman will give full story on this
exciting feature.

Ron Whaley #2 and #llx Rick Johns took the heat wins for
the Super Stocks. Whaley sat on the pole for the feature
race but as Whaley and Johns were going side by side for
the lead position in the feature, they touched and sent
them both out of action for the night. The #00 John
Hodge then took the lead and held on for the win.
Following Hodge across the finish line was #92 Bobby
Simcox, #50 Jeff Wright, #12 Cory Freed, and #1 Carl
Peters. Rob Watford #17 did a great job of holding the
6th position down. Rob has not raced this year due to
work and he did a fantastic job.

Super Lates had two heat races with Sid Sipes #17 and
Mack Hanbury #45 taking the heat wins. Coming back to
his home track for the first time in the 2002 season
was #78 B.J. McLeod. McLeod sat on the pole for the
feature race and lead to take the checkers for his first
2002 win at Orlando SpeedWorld. Mack Hanbury #45 has
had a rough time of it racing, seemed like everytime
something would happen but for the first time, his
car was on rails. I teased him that his "Visa must be
overlimit now" but he just smiled. Good job Mack.
Following B.J. across the finish line was the #56 of
Michael Skaggs, #02 Jared Allison, #45 Mack Hanbury,
and #10 Eric Black. Nice to have Eric racing with us
every Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld in spite of
that hair that has suddenly grown on his face (just
kidding Eric).

Rick Johns #4 was the winner of the Sportsman heat race.
But it was the #9 of Kelly Jarrett, who hit the wall
pretty hard two weeks ago, that sat on the pole for the
feature event and won from the pole. Following Jarrett
across the finish line was #4 Rick Johns, #23 Robert
Hight, #7 Bill Hall and #51 John Frey.

The #00 won the strictly Stock heat with the #45, #38.
#1, #00 and #38 taking the top five spots in the feature.
(Sorry guys, I missed your feature tonight).

Next weekend at Orlando SpeedWorld 50 Lap Super Stock
Race. Be There
