Mike Bresnahan Takes Late Model Victory at Citrus County Speedway

Inverness, FL - Rain cut practice short at Citrus County
Speedway Saturday night but when the track dried out
the racers kept coming and put on a great show in all
divisions without any major delays.

Twenty Late Models took the green flag and 12th starter
Mike Bresnahan worked the outside groove, where he likes
it, and snatched the lead away from the pole sitter Rex
Struble in lap 25 of the 30 lap main event for his third
win of the season and second win in a row, and putting
him at the top of the point ladder. Struble held on for
second just a car length ahead of Teddy Nelson who was
holding off Raymond Lovelady and Kevin Bryant in the
battle for third. Tommy Schnader, Herb Hoefler and Rex
Struble logged heat wins.

Rex Struble, pulling double duty, and winning the pole
again in the Sportsman 20 lap feature set the pace from
flag to flag for his first win of the season in the
division. Jimmy Thompson gave his best shot at taking
his first trip to Victory Lane but had to settle for
another second place finish. Mark Dominique inherited
third when George Neumann had a loss of power late in the
race and fell back behind Bill Oestreicher and Mike
Veltman at the finish line. Heat wins went to Jimmy
Thompson and Terry Cater.

With a reputation for banging his way through traffic,
Corky Miley drove a clean race from his fifth starting
position and went to the Winner's Circle for the first
time in years at Citrus County Speedway in the Street
Stock 20 lap feature win. Wes Wilson raced side by
side with Corky for five laps before Wes looped it in
turn two, putting him to the rear of the field late in
the race for the restart. Sixteenth starter Travis
Nichols survived a head on crash on the front straight
to salvage a second over Don Teague who lost the spot
on the last lap off of turn four. Dwayne Thompson won
out in the battle for fourth over Scott Hendrickson.
Heat winners were Wes Wilson and Travis Nichols. Phillip
Joyner made his very first trip to Victory Lane in
Mini Stock action being chased right to the checkers by
point leader Robbie Yoakam. Jay McKenzie moved from
sixth to third when all was said and done just head of
11th starter Rob Wheatley and Ron Bartley who started
fifth. Jimmy Bartley took a flag to flag win in the
first heat race. Rookie Lance Taylor won his very
first heat in only his third race in a Mini Stock since
moving up from a Go Kart Championship run at Dirt Devil
last year.

Another first time winner popped up in the Hobby Stock
feature when Daniel Webster who started on the outside
pole and set the pace all the way to the checkers despite
several caution flags. Dean Lawyer continues his smooth
runs for a second place finish. Roy Perkins managed to
come back from a rough start that sent him to the pits
and put him at the tail end of the twenty car field
for a very impressive third place finish. Tommy Smith
failed to make it to the front two spots for the first
time in six races and had to settle for a fourth after
starting 16th. Chris Cross managed to hold off the
balance of the field for a fifth place finish. Heat
wins went to Daniel Webster and Tommy Smith. Robert
Jordan thundered his way from his 11th starting spot
to his second win of the season in the first of two
feature races for the Thunder Stocks. Jeff Teague
also came from the back of the pack for second over
Tim Wilson, Shawn Conner and David Davis Sr. In the
second 20 lap main, the man who won the 2001 division
without winning a race took his second win in a row
from the back of the pack when the checkers flew.
Jerry Hoover nailed down second over Todd Downs, David
Davis Jr., and Terry Sharrone. Fourteen cars started
in each of the feature races.

All six divisions are back on the schedule for next week
with the Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks running in 40 lap
specials for a $500 win purse. They will be qualifying
in time trails at 5 p.m. The Late Models, Sportsman,
Street Stocks, and Thunder Stocks will be running
qualifying heats. Late Models will be doing a warm up
session for their Crystal Motor Car Co. 125 for $5,000
to win on April 27th.
