Legends Run at Auburndale. | by Billie May Auburndale Speedway had the Ledgend Cars as the featured race for this weekend, and all the regular calsses running also.
Ray Sasser # 8 started on the pole and # 29 Joe Flanagan outside pole, when the green came out # 6 Kenny Wyatt took the lead, # 25 Jason Reisman 2nd and # 1 Andy Logan 3rd. Single file racing for the most part with the top 4 racing nose to tail pulling away from the 5th place driver # 47 Tim Bagnall. Logan went to the inside of Reisman for the 2nd spot and Flanagan followed dropping Reisman to 4th. Sasser still leading the way, meanwhile Flanagan spins Logan in turn 4 with only 1 lap to go, but Logan continued on and finished 4th, with Ray Sasser taking the win, Joe Flanagan 2nd and Jason Reisman 3rd.

The V-8 Street Stocks had 18 cars for their feature race. Mike Wilson # 68 started on the pole and # 51 Mark Lowe outside pole, Wilson grabbed the lead from the start Jason Deaton # 99 2nd, Lowe went to the outside of # 38 Jason Stifle to battle for the 3rd spot but Stifle took it while Lowe battled side-by-side for the 4th spot with # 00 Rodney Peterson. First caution came out for # 66 Wesley Harbin spinning in turn 4, restart lap 3 Stifle and Deaton tangle together and get sideways in turn 4 causing a pile-up and # 16 David Purvis had to get repairs for a flat tire, and Peterson and Stifle go to the rear for the restart on lap 8, Lowe got into Deaton and cut his right front tire, ending his night after running in the top 5, caution, restart had Wilson still up front, Deaton, # 65 Brian Harbin, # 17 Alex Abbott and # 8 Ron Reed the top, 5 Deaton bumped Wilson out of the bottom grove and got underneath him for the lead, Wilson dropped 4 spots and finsihed 5th with Deaton tak! ing the win, Brian Harbin 2nd and Alex Abbott 3rd.

Super Stocks had a calm race for a change, with 17 cars starting this race, # 2 Paul Gibbs was on the point and # 12 David Williamson outside, they battled side-by-side for the top spot but Gibbs took the lead # 42 Bubba Edwards goes to 2nd David Williamson still on the outside now battling # 80 Dustin Breeden for 3rd, but Williamson falls back to 4th. James Wright III and # 13 Aaron Williamson were side-by-side for the 6th spot with Williamson taking it, single file racing for the top 5 until David Williamsom slams into # 08 Jim Orisich causing a chain reaction and Breeden was the loser of that situation dropping a position then caution comes out for debris, restart lap 20 with only 5 laps to go Paul Gibbs takes the win with Bubba Edwards a close 2nd and Jim Orisch 3rd.

The 4-cyl Bombers had the biggest field this year with 15 cars in the race. Keith Shirah # 21 on the pole took the lead from the beginning and # 3 Terry Jones into 2nd with # 1 David Jouppi running 3rd. # 43 Kevin Lumley spun in turn 2 caution came out, Lumley had a flat and went into the pits. Restart Shirah still up front Jones 2nd, Jouppi 3rd, # 56 Wayne Hough and # 38 Jerry "Fuzz" Winfield rounding out the top 5, then the # 96 Larry Chumney II came into the picture going around Winfield for 5th, Shirah had an easy night taking the win from the pole, Terry Jones 2nd and David Jouppi 3rd. After post race inspections # 21 Keith Shirah was DQed for to much left side weight, giving the win to Terry Jones and moving Larry Chumney II into 3rd.

Mini-Stocks had a lower car count than usual, but the ending was the same for the last 5 weeks. Brian Dorer # 97 started up front with # 38 Mike Margotta outside, Dorer took the lead with Margotta 2nd, and # 29 Richie Acres goes to the inside of Margotta for 2nd and # 90 Randy Storer followed dropping Margotta to 4th, Donnie Howell # 01 rounding out the top 5. Robbie Storer # 9 was up to the top 5 by lap 4 after starting 12th, Robbie Storer went under Randy Storer for 3rd, and then under Richie Acres for 2nd, Margotta got around Randy Storer to move him back up to the 4th spot and Donnie Howell did the same to move into the top 5 lap 10 Robbie Storer took the lead from Dorer, meanwhile # 76 Ken Lawrence got together with Howell, with Howell spinning caution came out and Lawrence went to the rear for the restart and Howell was put back in his spot. On lap 11 Robbie Storer still up front, with Dorer 2nd, Acres 3rd, Margotta 4th and Howell 5th, Robbie Storer spreading out! a big lead over 2nd place, Howell went to the inside of Margotta for 4th, but for the 5th straight week Robbie Storer won, Brian Dorer 2nd, and Richie Acres 3rd. The Bounty on Robbie Storer is now up to $ 50, it will go up $25 a week until someone beats him.

Our Profile Driver of the week is Donnie Howell, he drives the # 01 Mini-Stock. He is Married to Ruby Howell and has 2 sons Brian and Casey they live in Wahneta Fl., and Donnie is a Glass Tech. He has been racing for 18 years, and he started in the Mini-Stock Division, his most memorable race was the 1st race at the old Lakeland Speedway. His Sponsors are Georges Tire 967-4367 and Budget Auto Glass 965-7077. His best finish in the point standings was 3rd, and he was the Most popular Driver in 2000. His goal for the 2002 Season is to finish in the top 5 in points, and he would like to say a "Special Thanks" to Ruby Howell, Casey Howell, Brian Howell, and Charles & Steve from Budget Auto Glass.
Limited Late Models had to have a complete restart after the pole sitter # 25 Billy Norris got into # 45 Sam Cressman on the start turning Cressman sideways, with only cosmetic damage Cressman was able to continue. Restart again Norris was slow on the start opening a hole for # 54 Steve Black to take the lead, and on the front stretch # 55 Richard Elkins Jr. loses his hood almost hitting the flagman, but everyone was alright, restart on lap 4 the top 5 were Black, # 65 Ollie Harbin, Cressman, Norris, and Elkins Jr. but Elkins went to the inside of Norris to take the 4th spot and # 00 Ronnie Heard followed moving into the top 5, but # 1 Bart Weatherford got on the inside of Heard and took 5th place over, the top 2 were pulling away from the pack then Elkins and Cressman tangle and Elkins took the 3rd spot, Cressman drops 3 spots, with Harbin all over his bumper Steve Black took his 1st win of the season, Harbin finished 2nd with Richard Elkins Jr. 3rd.
