Burrows Over All Winner in OWM Twin 35's at Charlotte

by Danny Snow

The W. E. Johnson Road Warriors had the honor of running the first feature of the night and #11 Robert Hendry had the pole. After a four car pileup on lap six the red flag came out as Mother Nature decided to drop a little rain on the track for about an hour. Once the race resumed the #21 of Bill Sawyer made his way up to first. Sawyer held on to take the win. #81 Jim Bachman crossed the line in second but was later disqualified. #0 Clete Trimmer took second and #61 Chris Oncken came in third.

The 911 Racing Series twenty lap feature was up next. This series is comprised of EMT, Law Enforcement officers, and Fire Fighters from all around the state, and their winnings are given to children's charities within the state. #2 Bob Hart sat on the pole, but #27 Clark Wagner was in hot pursuit after the green flag. Wagner took the lead on lap eleven but spun on lap eighteen, passing the lead back off to #2 Hart, and setting up a two lap dash for the checkered flag. Hart took the win with #47 Joe Gill in second and #28 Phil Riles in third.

The first of two Budweiser/CLS Construction Open Wheel Modifieds thirty five lap features got underway with twenty seven cars and #32 Red Van on the pole. #12S Joe Sumasky spun on the second lap collecting #5 Jimmy Wilkins Jr. and #31 Kurt Riley, and earning a ride on the Prompt Towing hook back to the pits as the all volunteer broom crew cleaned up the aftermath. #11B Jamie Burrows took the lead on lap eight. By lap twenty eight #99M Doug Moff had made his way into second place and was challenging for the lead. #11B Burrows held position for the win with #99M Moff in second and #1J Wayne Jefferson in third. Hard charger for the race was #15A Bill Atkins, who started the race in the twenty third position and raced his way up to finish in tenth.

The Big Wheels 4x4 Mini Stocks were up next for their fifteen lap feature with #92 Kip Bryant on the pole, but by the end of the first lap it was #51 Rick Nastan out front. All the while, #56 Brian Richardson was steadily making his way up through the pack to challenge for the lead. Richardson took the lead on lap twelve and held on for the win. #51 Nastan came in second and #41 Billy Ray Jr. rounded out the top three taking third.

Fourteen cars took to the track for the Best Coast Insurance Street Stocks with #29 David Mayhood on the pole. A restart on lap two saw #31X Elbert Butts out front as #91X John Plakiotis and #84 Bill Vandevender were making their way up through the pack. #31X Butts held on for the win with #11 Doug Spitzer in second #91X Plakiotis in third. Vandevender took fourth.

The Budweiser/CLW Construction Open Wheel Modifieds second thirty five lap feature rounded out the night's racing action with #94 Chris Turner on the pole. A six car pileup at the start of the race depleted the field of twenty three cars by two. #25 Scott Kleiber started out in eighth place, but by lap nine he was in third and looking ahead to second. The restart after a lap twelve caution saw #94 Turner still on point with #25 Kleiber now in second. #94 Turner held on for the win with #25 Kleiber in second and #31 Kurt Riley in third. Hard charger for this race was Kleiber, and the over all winner was #11B Jamie Burrows.

From the smiling faces of all the kids, you could tell they had a good time with the Worlds Largest Easter Bunny, who posed for pictures with some of the "happy hunters".
