Ted Vulipus Takes Mini-Stock Win at New Smyrna Speedway

By Jane Smith

(KNS)Heats and features were on the board for Saturday
night at New Smyrna Speedway. Every division had at
least 2 heats leading to the feature races of the night.

The #55 of Jim Snyder had the pole for the Super Stock
feature race and lead until the #11 of Rick Johns took
the lead. It was a battle for most of the 15 laps
between the #55 and #11 for that number one position
until the #30 of Mike Wieczoreck sneaked thru the
#11 and #55 and took the lead. Once Wiecroreck got
that position, the win was his. Top five were #30
Mike Wieczoreck, #32 Bill Stacy, #55 Jim Snyder,
#2 Ron Whaley, and #11 Shane Stacy.

Robert Anderchek in the #90 had the Late Model feature
race pole but it was the #77 of Brian Bellaw who took
the lead and held on in spite of the hard charging #26
of Mike Murphy running second. The #90 of Anderchek
and the #43 of Randy Dye were fighting hard for the
third position that Anderchek held until the two cars got together and ended up in the turn 1 wall. A minor scuffle ensued follwing the indident before the race could be restarted.

When the race went green again, #26 Mike Murphy took
the lead from the #77 and held on for the win. Top
five were #26 Mike Murphy, #77 Brian Bellaw, #67 Chad
Allman, #3 Earl Beckner and #8 Cindy Strahle. At the
end of the night, officials made a call as to the
penalities on Dye but official consequences will be
determined Monday.

The #62 of Randy Hecker had the pole for the Sportsman
feature race but it was the #30 of Dale Clouser who
took the lead. Close behind Clouser was the #4 of Rick
Johns who eventually took the lead from Clouser. Top
five were #4 Rick Johns, #30 Dale Clouser, #111 Donnie
Williams, #62 Randy Hecker and #07 Ron Lufcy. After
the race, the top three Sportsman were torn down and
the #4 was found illegal. The win was given to the
#30 of Dale Clouser and the #28 of Chris Peludat gainned
the fifth finishing position.

David Castello #1 had the pole for the Mini Stock race
but due to some engine problems, quickly fell out of
the race. The #01 of Conrad Grenier took the lead
position but it was the #7 of Tim "Missileman" McPhail
who passed Grenier and took the lead. But McPhail's
engine started going sour and when this happened the
#71 of Ted "Mr. Mini Stock" took advantage of the
situation and took the lead and won. Top five were
#71 Ted "Mr. Mini Stock" Vulipus, #01 Conrad Grenier,
#9 Dale Casteel, #23 (mini truck) and #43 Tom Rose.

Last week's Modified Winner Justin Henderson #16 had
the pole for the Modified feature and quickly jumped
to the lead. But right behind Henderson was the #2
of Skip Honaker who was ready for a win. Honaker was
able to pass Henderson and took over the number one
spot. This put Henderson to second with the #7 of
Mark Vandevender behind the #16. Coming off 4, the
#7 pushed on the #16 sending him spinning and with
rear body damage which was pulled out for Henderson
to continue. Honaker held on to the lead and won with
#99 Jeff Anderson, #7 Mark Vandevender, #4b and #19
filling out the top five positions.

Strictly Stocks saw the #27 win their feature race but
he was disqualified giving the win to the #48 of David
Smith followed by the #66 Tim Edmundson, #3x DeWayne
Detwiler and #1 Chris Detwiler.

Next week at New Smyrna Speedway the Hooter's Pro Cup
boys return with features in Modifieds and Super Stocks.
