ROOKIE DEVIN DIXON TOPS LATE MODEL FIELD

by Ken Sands

Rookie Devin Dixon took the lead on lap 6 and battled for lap after lap with many time Champion Donnie Tanner and then battled with Jack Nosbisch Jr. enroute to his first career win in the 25 lap Late Model main. Dixon who started in eighth, ran his Blue Ribbon Farms #2 in the high groove and was not at all intimidated by the veterans. Nosbisch held on for second with Jeff Mathews taking third, Tanner finished fourth and Bobby Alexander Jr. rounded out the top 5. Heat wins went to Bobby Alexander Jr and Jack Nosbisch Jr.

Daryl Smith led the field of 360 Sprints to Julian Mullis' green flag, but Casey Johnson took the lead from Smith coming out of turn 2 and looked like he would claim his third win of the season, however a yellow bunched the field up and Sport Allen took the lead from Johnson on lap 9 and easily cruised home the winner in the Mulligan Motorsports Mopar powered #3. Johnson held on for second over Joe Melnick, Brian Maddox and Daryl SMith. Heats went to Casey Johnson and Sport Allen.

In the Wingless Sprints it looked like Larry Brazil Jr. would have his first career win, however a post race inspection found that Brazil had an illegal tire on the car thus getting DQ'd giving the win to Tim George over Ken Laureno,Clyde Poole, Frank Beck III and John Retzlaff. Heat wins went to Brazil and Tim George.

In Limited Late Models it was Terry Gay coming from dead last to claim his second win in a row over team mate David Simpson, Terry Bronson, Ricky Land and Ronnie Inman. Heats went to Terry Bronson and Ed Hill.

In Mini Stocks it was Chad Rose getting the win after apparent winner Scott Howard was found to have no muffler on the car resulting in the defending Champion getting DQ'd. Rose was the declared the winner, it is the first career win for Rose. Dorsey Strickland, Ryan Mitchell, Wayne Williams and Rich Livernois rounded out the top 5. Heats went to Chris Livernois and Wayne Williams.
