Stacy Roberts Dominates Late Model Series At Lake City Speedway

by Sharon Fancher
Street Stock Division

(3-16-02) Lake City Speedway got underway with the Street Stock Feature as the first event of the evening. The #33 of Eric Giambrone and the # 37 of ? was fighting for the lead position into turn one. With the caution flying before a lap was completed Eric Giambrone left the track for an unknown problem, only to return on the tail of the field. After the restart the caution flew once again as the hood of the #44 of ? came flying off onto the track causing the #55 of Jackie Thompson to run up high and get loose and spin out after trying to miss the debris. The race got underway once again with the Eric Giambrone in the #33 giving a love tap to ? in the #37 letting him know he was still there and wanting that first place postition.Caution flew again as contact was made by the #55 of Jackie Thompson and the #X of Wayneo Risner causing Risner to slid high, then off the track ending the night due to major car damage for Risner who was at the time running 4th .The green flew once again with the heat being turned up by the #37 of ? who was all over Eric Gambrone in the #33. After about three laps the the #37 car started to loose ground because of an apparent flat tire allowed the #83 of J.J Spears to get under him in turn one. Now the battle was on for first as Gambrone had yet another contender wanting his position. Gambrone slidding high in turn 4 causing the #83 to get under him. Victory was short for the #83 of J.J Spears as Gambrone wasn't going to allow him the victory. As Gambrone quickly took his lead position away from J.J Spears in the #83. Gambrone took the checker with the #83 of J.J Spears following close by for second, leaving 3rd to be taken by the #79 of Duane Teckenbrock, 4th went to the #31 of Shane Taylor and finally finishing 5th was the #55 of Jackie Thompson.

Mini Stock Division

At the drop of the green as the #72 of Jake Hartley quickly took the lead and the battle clearly being for second as the #59 of William Stalnaker, #03 of Curtis Clark and the #77 of Jeff Stalnaker Sr. were three wide going into turn one trying to see which contender would get the second place position. Leaving the #77 of Stalnaker Sr. to take that postion followed by his brother William in the #59 leaving Clark in the #03 to take fourth.William in the #59 got under his Brother Jeff in the #77 and took the lead as Jake Hartley in the #72 Pinto got high coming out of turn one. A battle insued for the second place position as Stalnaker Sr. in the #77 and Clark in the #03 were in a nose to tail battle leaving the #59 to get a clear lead. As Stalnaker Sr.was creating havoc on his friend Curtis Clark in the #03 trying to hold his line his car finally giving up coming out of turn four causing him to get high allowing Clark to get under him to take the second place position. William Stalnaker in the #59 finally took the checker with a 5 car lead, followed by Curtis Clark in the #03 for second, Jeff Stalnaker Sr.taking third, leaving fourth to Jake Hartley in the #72 Pinto.

Limited Sportsman II And Modified

As the green waved wildly the field was tight going into turn one causing contact to be made by the #03 of Paul Townsend and the #1 of James Blankenship drawing out the first caution of the night ending the nights events for the #1 of James Blankenship after some major damage being done in the pile up. Also ending the night for the #03 of Paul Townsend after being black flagged. Leaving the #86 of Wilson Griffis and #00 David Lashley to battle for 1st and 2nd. The #86 of Wilson Griffis clearly the stronger of the to take the checkered followed by the #00 of David Lashley for second.

Children's Bicycle Race

There were four contenders in this race from age 7 to 10 Destiny Young Age 8 Robert O'neail Age 10 Chris Baker Age 8 Shea Spears Age 7

These litele guy's and gal's put on one heck of a show for the fan's of Lake City Speedway. Robert O'neail had the lead and lead most of the race, but unfortunately his chain came off causing him to finish fourth. Allowing Destiny Young to take the checker, followed by Chris Baker for second and Shea Spears for third. All these children placed first in my eye's, they sure did have the blood for racing running through their veins that was obvious.

Late Model Series Division

The Late Model Series race got underway, but before the green could drop the #57 pulled off the track but re-entered on the tail before the green dropped. As the green finally flew and the cars approached turn one, what could have been a serious pile up was miracleously avoided by some fast manuvering and quick thinking by the drivers. The green once again dropped but was short lived as the caution flew again because of the eagerness the drivers were showing to get the race started. The race finally got underway with a battle for the third position between the # 83 (?) and the #15 of Jeff Henry .Henry proving to be the stronger of the two and taking the third place position. With the #83 loosing ground quickly and falling to eleventh position. The battle was going strong for the second place position currently being held by the #46 of Everett Phillips and was being challenged by the #44p of Eric Platt.Platt was drastically wanting that position and was working hard on Phillips to get it. Platt finally getting high and losing a little distant, but after making a lap he quickly recovered and is on the tail of Phillips once again. By now the leader Stacy Roberts in the #11 car has moved about 5 car lengths out in front of the field, breathing the clean air and fearing no challenges he strolls around the track. The fighting still continue's for that second place spot by Platt and Phillips, but little did they know the #15 of Jeff Henry whom earlier had fallin back a few spots was now quickly closing the gap between them once again. As Stacy Roberts our leader and Everett Phillips the second place car are now walking away with the race the lap traffic draws out a caution after the leader Stacy Roberts hits the #99 with Roberts sliding off the side of the track in turn one and two. Giving Roberts his position back the green once again drops with Roberts and the #46 of Everett Phillips nose to tail battling for first with one lap to go. Phillips trying desperately to work Roberts over for that first place position doesn't succeed. The #11 takes the checkered, with Phillips following on his tail, leaving the # 15 of Jeff Henry to settle for third, the 201 of Gene Maine to take fourth and #44p of Eric Platt fifth.

Pure Stock Feature

The green drops with the #65 of Coleman Jandle III taking the lead. The leader clearly without a challenge strolls gracefully around the track while the heat was being turned up for second with the #2 (?) and The #9 (?) battling it out. Contact being made by the #2 sending the #9 sideways up the track drew out a caution with the #9 limping off the track. The #9 quickly re-enters before the green dropped again, but the #2 also leaves the track but later re-enters.The green flies and the battling begins for second with the #97 of Joey Roland and #28 of Shane Taylor whom was driving his wife Trish Taylor's car for the evening in the Pure Class. The caution was drawn out again as the #2 gets high along with the #0 getting into the dirt wall causing a need for asssisatnce. As the green drops with only two to go Coleman Jandle III is still out front and takes the checkered followed by Shane Taylor in the #28 for second, Joey Roland in the #97 to take third, along with Troy Davis in the #38, and finally Andrew Davis in the #18 gets that fifth spot.

Don't forget to join Lake City Speedway this Friday and Saturday for the Late Model Sportsman Series Southern Dirt Series Tour
