Sonny Hartley Wins Wire To Wire T.B.A.R.A. Race At Charlotte

By Danny Snow

When the green flag dropped for the W. E. Johnson Equipment Road Warriors twenty five lap feature, fifteen cars thundered to life with #21 Bill Sawyer on the pole. #2 Lonnie Rutherford had moved up from the middle of the pack to take over the lead by lap three, but #82 Billy Lentz was pushing toward the front for a challenge. Lentz took the top spot on lap eleven and held it for the win with #2 Rutherford in second. #30 Chris Huntoon made his way up from the back of the field to take third.

#28 Tyler David sat on the pole for the Pro Challenge (formerly Mini Cups) twenty lap race, but it was #12 Brad Sanders out in front by the end of the first lap. Sanders never looked back as he raced on for the victory with #10 Tim Hart in second and #24 Mark David in third in this all green flag race.

The Mod Lite (Dwarf Cars) twenty five lap feature was up next with #22 Mark Landis on the pole for the twenty five car field. #68 Brian Paradis took over the lead on the third lap and was still out in front when the checkered flag flew. #22 Mark Landis came in second and #5 George Landis rounded out the top three in third.

Sixteen T.B.A.R.A Winged Sprints took to the track with #32 Sonny Hartley on the pole after they did their salute to the fans with the four wide parade lap. #22 Wayne Reutimann and #18 Shane Butler, made their way up through the field to take the second and third spots early on in the race. By lap sixteen they were following #32 Hartley through lapped traffic. Hartley held on for the win with #22 Reutimann in second and #18 Butler in third.

Starting on the pole, #74 Chuck Stevens dominated the twenty five Pure Stock feature. #77 Dennis Hale was running a good strong second for some thirteen laps before ending up in the pits with engine trouble. #74 Stevens went on to win the race with #55 Conrad Molter in second and #9 Storm Sidock in third.

The Big Wheel Mini Stocks took to the track for their twenty five lap feature with #11X Tim Miller Jr. on the pole, but it was #94 Keith Risinger out in front at the end of the first lap. Risinger held the lead for fifteen laps before dropping off the pace with engine trouble, passing the lead off to #41 Billy Ray Jr. #56 Brian Richardson was door to door with Ray from lap sixteen to lap twenty one challenging for the lead. #41 Ray took the win with #19 Dale Dean III in second. #56 Richardson spun on the twenty first lap but managed to make it back up to take third place.

The Thunder Trucks were up for the final feature of the night with #85 Michael Macho on the pole for the thirteen truck field. By lap two it was #56 Robert Charette in the lead, but two laps later #22 John Garrett had taken over the top spot. #2 Gene Pack made his way up through the pack to take over first place by lap seven and ended up lapping most of the field on his way to victory. #22 Garrett came in second and #37 Cheryl Weaver rounded out the top three making her way up to take third.

The Cat Country Limited Late Models will take to the track at the Charlotte County Speedway for their first race of the season and more of that "Southern Thunder" this coming weekend.
