Keller Wins Bronson Pure Stocks

By Brenda Roberts

(KNS)After 2 weeks of rain cancelations, the new Bronson Motor Speedway was finally open for business Saturday night. The pits were full of eager racers ready to try out the new asphalt. The newly re-constructed grandstands were full of anticipated fans (standing room only) ready to see the green flag drop. So now it was time to begin the 2002 race season.

Bronson welcomed back the modifieds after they were cancelled off the schedule several years ago. This was an exciting race to watch as pole sitter #07 Larry Martin took the lead early.

With 5 laps to go a caution came out on the #13 car closing the gap with Martin and #39 Gary Southard. Southard was a hard charger nearly over taking Martin with 2 laps to go.

Martin held his position to knock off his first feature win for the 2002 season at Bronson. Welcome back guys.

What a way to make a come back for #70 Arthur Conquest. Conquest suffered from a serious injury last year and had to take the rest of the season off. Well, tonight proved he still had it and could make his way to the winner's circle.

Conquest took the lead out of the shoot. Not even halfway through the race, he had a straight away lead on #76 Roger Damron and the rest of the field. A caution came out on lap 18 and that bunched the cars back together. But, Conquest held on to take the win. Welcome back Arthur.

The Mini stock race saw Robbie Yoakam in the winner's circle.

The purestocks came ready to race and Donnie Roberts in the #24 was a little too eager to get the races started. He was the pole sitter and jumped the start twice and was sent to the rear. That put #69 Tommy Osbourne on the pole and he held off the lead for several laps.

He had competition with #78 Wesley Keller and #21 Corkey Miley, all wanting the win. Keller and Miley got up front and put on a good race. Keller was able to hold off Miley for the win, which almost ended in a photo finish.

The Mini Cup Cars made their way to Bronson to put on an exciting show. If you have never seen these cars, they look like miniature Nascars. They had 14 cars start the feature. I am sorry, but I do not have the names of these drivers but they put on a good show for fans.

Be sure to visit next week as the FASTRUCK Series is on the schedule to run a 50 lapper.
