McCreadie Snares Thrilling DIRT Modified Finale at Volusia

It was an unbelievable finish for the DIRT Modifieds Saturday as young driver Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., made a move on the last lap of the caution-free 50-lap feature and took his first win in Florida from veteran driver Brett Hearn of Sussex, N.J. An excited McCreadie jumped on the top of his racecar in front of an excited packed stands. He said it was great to win in front of that many fans, and after battling with drivers with so much experience.

It was back and forth for the top three spots, #33 Ray Swinehart, Bechtelsville, PA sat on the pole for the feature race and kept up with the leaders to finish 4th. McCreadie shot out for the lead but was taken by #3 Brett Hearn and by lap 9 Hearn was lapping cars. Hearn led the rest of the race until the lap that counted, the checker flag lap. The battle for second went on for several laps as McCreadie took #1m Tim Fuller, Edwards, N.Y. on lap 21 but by lap 25 it was Fuller in second and McCreadie in 3rd with Swinehart in 4th. Everyone held their breath on lap 31 as the leaders come up on slow traffic and they checked up, the leaders swerved to avoid a disaster and all of them were able to keep it together and continue racing. With 5 laps to go McCreadie made his first move and took 2nd from Fuller and then made his phenomanel pass for first place in turn 3 and 4 on the last lap of the race. The top spots were Tim McCreadie, Brett Hearn, Tim Fuller, and Ray Swinehart.

NOTES: For the second time this week a Modified ended up on it's roof, first one over was #9 Bob McCreadie and tonight it was #45 Chuck Hebing, Ontario, N.Y. in turn 3, Hebing lost it, his car climbed the guardrail and ended up on it's roof. Hebing was able to get out of the car on his own and walk away from the crash.
