Volusia Speedway Park Finale Finds Chub Frank, Tim McCreadie Big Winners

It was a start to finish run for #1* Chub Frank, Bear
Lake, PA. Frank put his 1* out in front after starting
on the outside pole and kept it there while a field of
strong race cars tried high and low to get past his
wicked fast machine. Polesitter #38 Kenny Pettyjohn,
Millsboro, DE held off big time Florida winners #71 Don
O'Neal, Martinsville, IN but by lap 8 O'Neal showed his
colors and shot past Pettyjohn and #21m Billy Moyer,
Batesville, AR followed and took 4th while #15b
Brinkhofer stayed in second. By lap 15 the leaders,
Frank, O'Neal and Moyer were lapping slower cars. The
top two positions were out front by several car lengths
until lap 19 when #6m Wendell Wallace, Batesville, AR
stomped 'em and passed them all for second. At the
half way mark it was Frank, Wallace, O'Neal, Birkhofer
and Moyer in the top 5 spots. #24 Rick Eckert, York,
PA was pushing hard to gain positions and made it to the
lead pack.

The first of two cautions was on lap 34 when the leaders
pushed their way past #96 Terry English, Whiteland, IN
they were slipping and sliding and Wallace almost passed
Frank until the caution put them back in position with
Frank leading. O'Neal got the worst of it as he got too
low into slow traffic and ended up in the front stretch
wall ending his night and run for the money.

#99 Norm Moran, Dresdan, OH has been a contender all week
but had trouble today and was a lapped car but he was
able to stay up with the leaders. #18K Brandon Kinzer,
Allen, KY was the second caution as his car came to a
stop in turn one. The final laps of the race saw the top
five nose to tail and side by side right up to the
checker. The top five Frank, Wallace, Brinkhofer,
Moyer and Eckert.

After a dq for weight last night, #96 Terry English,
Whiteland, IN set fast time with a strong 17.584.

Unbelievable finish for the D.I.R.T. Modifieds as young
driver #56 Tim McCreadie, Watertown, NY made a move
on the last lap of the caution free 50 lap feature and
took his first win in Florida from veteran driver #3
Brett Hearn, Sussex, NJ. An excited McCreadie jumped
on the top of his racecar in front of an excited
packed stands. He said it was great to win in front
of that many fans, and after battling with drivers
with so much more experience.

It was back and forth for the top three spots, #33 Ray
Swinehart, Bechtelsville, PA sat on the pole for the
feature race and kept up with the leaders to finish
4th. McCreadie shot out for the lead but was taken
by #3 Brett Hearn and by lap 9 Hearn was lapping cars.
Hearn led the rest of the race until the lap that
counted, the checker flag lap. The battle for second
went on for several laps as McCreadie took #1m Tim
Fuller, Edwards, NY on lap 21 but by lap 25 it was
Fuller in second and McCreadie in third with Swinehart
in fourth. Everyone held their breath on lap 31 as
the leaders came up on slow traffic and tthey checked
up, the leaders swevered to avoid a diaster and all of
them were able to keep it together and continue racing.
With 5 laps to go McCreadie made his first move and
took second from Fuller and then made his phenomenal
pass for the first place in turn 3 and 4 on the last
lap of the race. The top spots were Tim McCreadie,
Brett Hearn, Tim Fuller and Ray Swinehart.

For the second time this week a Modified ended up on it's
roof, first one over was #9 Bob McCreadie and tonight it
was the #45 Chuck Hebing, Ontario, NY in turn 3. Hebing
lost it, his car climbed the guardrail and ended up
on it's roof. Hebing was able to get out of the car on
his own and walk away from the crash.
