It's time to race!

Brett Hearn Wins D.I.R.T. Modified Feature at VSP on Night #6

It was a clean race and a great first win at Volusia
Speedway Park for #166 Joey Izzo, Chicago, IL! Izzo
started on the pole and was hammered by #21m Billy
Moyer, Batesville, AR after several attempts Moyer
just couldn't catch Izzo.

#96 Terry English, Whiteland, IN was second fastest
tonight with a blistering 17.448. English was light
as he pulled off the scale and his time was DQ'd,
giving second to Vic Coffey out of Lekester, NY.

A caution on lap 23 thrown for #28 Jimmy Mars, Elk
Mound, WI as he got into traffic and ended up in the
inside wall of turn 4. Mars didn't need help getting
her going as he fired and pulled back on to the track
on his own. Mars was running in the 4th spot before
the spin and ended finishing 21st. It was anybody's
guess at that point as they restarted on lap 23 with
7 laps to go, but it was Izzo all the way to the
checker in front of #21m Billy Moyer, #24 Rick Eckert
and the two time winner and big Florida winner #71 Don
O'Neal finished 4th.

2001 Points Champion #3 Brett Hearn, Sussex, NJ took
the feature win after a battle with polesitter #56 Tim
McCreadie, Watertown, NY. #1m Tim Fuller, Edwards, NY
was leading the points going into tonight's race with
116 and held his lead by 4 over second place #3 Brett
Hearn, Sussex, NJ.

It was a "hold your breath" moment in heat race three as
a car spun in turn 2, #9 Bob McCreadie, Watertown, NY
was coming out of the turn at the same time, slamming
into the stoped racecar. McCreadie flipped several
times and came to rest just out of turn two. McCreadie
was ok but the race was stopped for several minutes
cleaning up the mess. On the restart of lap 4, there
were only 4 cars able to continue.

The first caution of the night came before a lap was
completed as #3 Brett Hearn made his move and got
loose trying to avoid a pack of cars. Hearn gathered
it up and continued but #2 Craig Mullins, Bridgeville,
DE spun and the caution was thrown. A little controversy
as the #3h Justin Haers, Phelps, NY would not get into
the right spot on the restart and was blackflagged.

#20 Tony Stewart, Rushville, IN seemed to have the car
to beat as he rocketed to a strong lead on lap 2. #3t
Tom Sears, Clay, NY and #79 Jeremy Markle, Port Jervis,
NY both ended up with damage to their racecars as
the second of seven cautions flew. It was mass confusion
as the entire field was stopped and physically put
into position to save time and cautions. Stewart had
a tire go down and went into the pits, he attempted
to return to race but having more trouble ended up
with a 21st place finish.

The last 10 laps of the 30 lap feature were action
packed as the leaders #3 Hearn and #56 Tim McCreadie
battled back and forth for the top spot. Hearn making
some daring moves in lap traffic took the lead and
won his first race at Volusia Speedway Park. It was
#3 Hearn, #56 Tim McCreadie, #30 Jamie Mills, points
leader #m1 Tim Fuller and #74 JR Heffner rounding out
the top 5.
