The Action is Building as Night 7 is Put to Rest at NSS

Night 7 of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing
was full of action. As the final days dwindle down,
the fight is on for position in points. Tonight, it
was the Super Late Models in their 50 lap special.

On the pole tonight was Jr. Hanley's #66. Hanley quickly
jumped to the lead but it was not for long as a caution
was thrown in the second lap for the #30 Richard Ruecker
and #53 which battled the turn 4 wall. During the
caution, the #71 of Lee Faulk retires to the pits with
mechanical problems. The green was thrown for the
single file restart only to see the yellow come out
immediately when the #7 Eric Darnell, #27x Mike Good
and #2x Clay Rogers all get together coming out of
turn 4. Once again, the green is thrown with Hanley,
Powell, Kittleson, Mechalides, and Tedesco leading
the field.

Jonathan Brown #9 and Jimmy Cope #61 are having a side
by side discussion on the 6th place position which
Brown holds but Cope wins that discussion, takes 6th
and puts Brown 7th. Cope then sets his eye on the #70
Tedesco for the fifth position and by lap 12, Cope
has fifth and Tedesco is shuffled back to 7th.

Lap 18 sees a spinout on the bottom of turns 3 and 4
and when the wrecker goes to push the car out, the
wrecker gets stuck in the mud. The field is red flagged
not because of a car but because the wrecker is stuck.
After a few moments of figuring out how to unstick the
wrecker and unsticking it, we are back to green.

Lap 21 the yellow comes out for Travis Kittleson #88 who
spins going down the frontstretch. Kittleson is put
to the rear of the field and the race is restarted with
Hanley still leading the way. Jimmy Cope #61, who was
running fifth prior to Kittleson's spin, comes off the
track and retires to the pits with mechanical problems.
On the restart, B.J. McLeod #78 makes his move to fourth
place and puts Tedesco #70 in fifth. But Kittleson
does not like the rear of the field and quickly makes
his moves to work his way back into the top ten in 8th
postion.

Lap 30 proved to be a costly lap. There was no only one
wreck but two. Ricky Carlton #34 and Ryan Tedesco #70
tangle in turn 4. Tedesco spun coming off 4 and Carlton
had no place to go and went right into the #70. Then in
turn 3, there is a three car pile up with Bruce Gowland #28
Bob Fox #90 and #74x. Gowland came out the worse in that
one having to be towed off the track. On the restart,
it is Hanley, Powell, Mechalides, McCloud, #44, Kittleson,
Chris Davidson, Matt Hagen, David Rogers and Gelinas.

No more cautions, only close racing. But on the last lap
and only a few feet from the start-finish line, Mechalides
spins on the frontstretch taking away his third place
finish. Hanley takes the win with James Powell, B.J.
McLeod, Travis Kittleson, #44, Matt Hagen, Larry Gelinas.
and Chris Davidson.

Jimmy Elliott, Jr. #32 sat on the pole for the Sportsman
feature but it was the #2 Brett Bultemeier who took
the lead. It was a door to door battle for most of
the race between Bultemeier, #7 Rick Johns, #30 Dale
Clouser, #62 Randy Hecker and #17 Bill Loomis. Ian
Hoffman #3, winner from the night before, retired into
the pits with a broken rear end. The race ran almost
caution free until the #30 of Dale Clouser caused the
yellow on lap 8 with smoke pouring out from his hood.
Rick Johns #7 took the lead and never let it go after
that. Following Johns was #2 Bultemeier, #17 Bill
Loomis, #62 Randy Hecker, #28 David Meyer, #31 Paul,
#07 Ron Lufcy, #98 Kenny Hellyer, #63 Dale Howard,
#69 Jim Foley, #57 and #18 Ken Lewton.

David Bergmann #32 sat on the pole for the NASCAR Tour
Type/SK Mods and won from the pole. Restart after
restart, Bergmann was able to hold off George Kent,
Joey Carraccia, Eric Beers and JR Bertuccio. On
lap 13, the #00 of Ted Christopher gets under the
rear bumber of #34 Joey Carraccia and sends them
both spinning. Christopher is sent to the rear and
Carraccia retains his position.

On lap 16, the #3 Jeff Malave brings out the yellow
for a spin in turn 4. Bergmann holds his lead and
by lap 21, Christopher has worked his way back to the
l0th palce position. Also on lap 21, the #2 of JR
Bertuccio, while runnng in the top five, hits the
turn 1 wall and has to be towed into the pits. As
soon as the green was thrown, the yellow came out
for a spin on the frontstretch. The race restarted
and it was the #32 of David Bergmann getting his
first win at the 2002 World Series of Asphalt Stock
Car Racing. Folliwng Bergmann was the #19 Eric Beers,
#14 Rob Summers, #11 Nevin George and #29 George
Bach. Tomorrow night these guys will battle their
100 lap race.

Mike Lucas #89 sat on the pole for the Late Model race
but it was Kirk Hooker #38 who jumped to the lead.
Hooker held the lead for a few laps but it did not take
the #15 of Jason Boyd to take over the lead. Boyd has
won every Late Model race so far. This race ran
caution free. Coming in after Boyd was #38 Kirk
Hooker, #5x Gery Artuso, #5 Joey Miller, #26 Larry
Osteen, #63 DeWayne Bryan, #90 Bob Andercheck, #70
Rob Howard, #25 - Timmy Todd, and #80 Jonathan Smith.

Stephen Johannec #1 sat on the pole for the Open Wheel
Modifieds and fought long and hard to keep that lead.
With only two cautions, one for a spin by the #21 and
one for debris on the track, Johannec did a good job
of holding off #66 Jerry Symons. But Symons and
Johannec touch which makes Johannec loose and must
gather it back up or hit the wall which gives the
lead to Symons and allows Jason Boyd #2x to slide by
also. Johannec lead most of the race and did a very
good job but it was Jerry Symons #66 taking home the
win again. Following Symons was Jason Boyd #2x,
Stephen Johannec #1, #5x Gery Artuso, #00 Bobby Blake,
#51 Dave Stacy, #31 Charlie Gall, #11 Brent Cross,
#3 Wayne Parker, #4b Alan Bruns, #69 Frank Alberson.

2/15 - Super Late Models, 100 lap NASCAR Tour Type/SK
Mods, Late Models, FL/IMCA Mods, Sportsman, Allison
Legacy cars.
