COTTLE TAKES RAMADA INN ON TAMPA BAY OPENER

Shane Cottle of Charleston, Illinois won $1500 on the first preliminary night of the Ramada Inn on Tampa Bay Open Wheel Modified Winternationals Monday night at East Bay Raceway, after the kick off race on Sunday was shortened by rain and will be run as a double header program on Tuesday. Driving the Larry Johns owned, Dirtworks car number 30J, powered by a Williams engine, Cottle started the 30 Lap, 26 car A Main in sixth spot after the pill draw was for a top 8 inversion. He took the lead from Dan Hamstra on lap 20 running the bottom groove coming off turn four. But Hamstra didn't quit and actually regained the lead just as a yellow came out on lap 23 for a turn two spin by Jamie Burrows.

Once the field lined up for the restart with cottle in front, Hamstra could not get by again and had to settle for second. The top five at the finish were Cottle, Hamstra, Kevin Weaver, Bob Pohlman and Craig Christiansen. The 10 heats for 111 cars from 24 states went to Brian Mullin, Bob Pohlman, Shane Cottle, Jamie Burrows, Gary Archambault, Royal Jones, Dan Hamstra, Craig Christiansen, Tin Donlinger and Chad Kinder. D Mains went to Marc Robe and Ron Jones. The C Main went to Ron Jones and Randal l Sweeney won the B Main. The 10 Lap Morgan Farms Strawberry Dash went to New Yorker Randy Hall. The 15 Lap Street Stock Main went to first time winner Bruce Harvey, with the 15 Lap Mini Stock main going to Devin Dixon
