Gary Clark Tops Modified Field At Volusia

The feeling you get when the Open Wheel bad boys hit the track is awesome! Gary Clark of Walker, Missouri pulled off a great finish staying out in front for the majority of this 30 lap feature race. The #12d of Scott Drake, (Muskogee, OK) didn't give him any slack as they raced hard for the entire race.

Few cautions marred this perfect race as weather threatened all around. Saturday's winner 1W Ray Walsh, St. Louis, MO was having his share of problems and was in the back of the pack but worked his way up to an impressive 5th place finish. On lap 9 the caution came out for #71 Bill Davis, Chesterton, IN and local driver #7 Kent Corbin, Bunnell, FL as they got together in turn 1, Davis finished 19th while Corbin got the most damage and finished 21st for the night. The 9i Steve Isenberg, Marshfield, WI had trouble and tried to fix it on the track sending him to the pits for repairs and he ended up 20th for the night.

The 1W Ray Walsh got loose coming out of 3 but was able to gather it up and straighten her up, but #87 Eddie Harmon, Ironton, OH lost it and spun in turn 4. Harmon ended up having more trouble on lap 12 spinning again on the backstretch.

The battle was on and every driver wanted the win, m40 Scott May, East Peoria, IL was amazing as he came out of turn 4 on 2 maybe 1 wheel, his car was basically airborne coming down the front stretch and setting down as he entered turn 1. May finished 6 with this impressive driving technique.

ALL STAR SPRINTS:
The top 6 spots in the points were inverted for the start of the final 30 lap feature race for the ALL STAR SPRINTS at Volusia Speedway Park and it was an unbelievable finish with the #51 Kasey Kahne taking the big money home. #51 Kahne was 7th in points so he had to earn his start in the feature! Point leader going into the race was #20 Danny Lasoski, Dover, MO had some problems in the dash race and pulled out a 9th place finish.

Most of the cars on the track were smoking as the feature began. It was tight fast racing as the leaders #6 Kenny Jacobs, #92 Joe Saldana and #20 Danny Lasoski kept together for the first part of the race. #U2 Paul McMahan had trouble and was the first caution of the night on lap 15 as he spun on his own.

#19s Steve Smith had worked his way to 7th after being an alternate and starting 24th. A caution on lap 21 for the #34 Dean Jacobs and #35 Tyler Walker gave everyone a chance at the top spots and on the restart the #77 Dewease and #15 Chad Kenemah had passed points leader #20 Lasoski but as the laps went by it was #51k Kasey Kahne, Ecumlaw, WA shooting past the leaders for the win.
