VSP Results 2/02

The National Late Model fast time went to the last
qualifier, Henry Carter from Kite, GA with a time of
19.286. The National Late Models ran 5 heats with
the top 3 from each heat guaranteed a starting spot
for the 100 lap feature on Sunday. In the 4th heat
race, Tony Lewis hit the wall coming out of turn 4
and something broke causing a fire. The safety crew
were on hand to put the fire out as Lewis climbed
from the car to the cheering crowd.

Hobby Stock saw brothers cross the start finish first
and second as 46 Travis Gamble and 64 Trevor Gamble.
Before a lap was on the board, 01 Jimmy Heffner and
0 George Richards got together and it was a complete
restart with both of them on the rear of the field.
This conflict carried on through the race with
Heffner losing it coming out of turn 4 and ending up
at the pit entrance. Heffner got out of his car and
words were exchanged as Richards stopped in turn 4.
Heffner was done for the night.

The Mini Stocks also saw brothers battle it out for
the win, but it was K9 Mike Cawood taking the
checker and 6 Matt Cawood almost taking out Victory
Lane as he finished second.

Street Stock 2001 Point Champion 22 Joe Baker took his
first feature win of the new year. 11 Pat Varieka was
fighting for second and giving Baker a run but Varieka
blew a motor and finished 8th. The battle for second
was between 66 Tony Knowles and 54 Tim Hughes until 8
David Whitt moved in and took 3rd from Hughes.

Pure Stock first time feature winner 48 Deric Smith
led green to checker and was one of the happiest
winners of the night. Deric will be interviewed on
the radio Tuesday night, call the track for details.
