Mike Cawood takes Mini Stock Win at VSP after Eldridge Refused Teardown

It was unseasonably warm and they were back and ready to
race tonight at Volusia Speedway Park! The Mini Stock
and Pure Stock ran heats and features while the Hobby
Stock and Street Stocks qualified and ran heat races
in preparation for their 100 lap races set for Sunday
with $5,000 to Win.

The fans took a brief intermission as the stepdaughter
of #14 Hugh Hays, Jaclyn Green and her finance Clayton
Miller exchanged their wedding vows on the front stretch.

Mini-Stocks: Heat Race 1 - #22 Mark Eldridge - #6 Matt
Cawood - #3 Ryan Vansickle - Heat Race 2 - #72 Jake
Hartley - #8 Paul Sheppard - #9 - Mike Cawood

The feature was spread out for several laps as #22 Mark
Eldridge got a jump on #72 Jake Hartley and held on to
the lead to take the lst Mini Stock win of 2002. Lap 5
the caution was thrown as #30 LJ Klemons car "died" on
the front stretch. #97 Jackie Rhames slowed up on lap
8 while brothers #9 Mike Cawood and #6 Matt Cawood
battled for 2nd and 3rd spots. Early front runner #72
Jake Hartley spun on lap 18 and ended up with a 7th
place finish.

** Mark Eldridge refused a tear down after the race.
The win was given to Mike Cawood.

Pure Stocks: Heat Race 1 - #23 Mark Reiter - #75 Shawn
Pawlak - #49 - Deric Smith. Heat Race 2 - #777 Robert
Goodman - #77 - Shannon Cleveland - #17 Marvin Prentice

The first Pure Stock winner of 2002 was #43 Joey Froelich.
As the Pure Stock race began so did the contact between
#23 Mark Reiter and #777 Robert Goodman. On lap 2 #75
Shawn Pawlak dropped back and ended up in the pits but
was able to make it back out by lap 4. #777 Goodman
held on to the lead until lap 5. #48 Deric Smith took
the lead and #43 Joey Froelich took second. #777 Goodman
was having problems and ended up in a spin on lap 8
finally finishing in 6th place.
