SpeedFest 2006 is Just Around the Corner

KARNAC Staff Report

The 2nd annual SpeedFest is fast approaching at USA International. Recently more details were released on this very exciting event scheduled to take place on January 26-28, 2006 featuring the "best of the best" Super Late Models and Pro Trucks.

Once again the event is billed as the "North vs South" battle of the century sponsored by the Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series and the FASCAR/Sunbelt Super Series. In January 2005 60 teams took part in the first "SpeedFest" at USA International with Mike Fritts taking the 100 lap event and Charlie Menard winning the Mark III Conversions 200-lap finale.

Teams this year will find that the overall purse has increased for the 2006 event with the winner taking home over $10,000. The schedule for this year's event has also changed from the format of the first SpeedFest. This year teams will register and go thru inspections and then practice on Thursday, January 26. Qualifying will be Friday, January 27 for one of two twin 100 qualifiers.

It has been determined that Nashville will be the geographic dividing line for determining who runs in the South qualifier and the North qualifier. The top ten cars from Friday's South 100 and North 100 will be locked in for the finale 200 lap event on Saturday, January 28. In all, a minimum of 36 cars will take the green flag for the 200 lap finale on Saturday, while all cars will run a feature on Friday.

Billy Martino, USA International Speedway promoter, had this to say about the event, "This past event was a true battle of the North vs South and the fans saw that. Because of it's success, we knew we had to do this again and the 2006 event promises to be even bigger and better."

Glenn Luckett and R.J. Scott from the CRA and Don Nerone of FASCAR will be directing the event. While the on-track activities will be directed by these sanctioning bodies, officials want to be very clear that this is an "open" event and that a minimum of 32 starting spots are open to all teams regardless of sanctioning boyd affliation.

Bonus dollars are available to the top finishing CRA and Sunbelt teams as well as all other non affliliated cars, which will be battling for bonus dollars for their own pool.

So mark you calendar for January 26-28 for SpeedFest 2006 at the well known USA International in Lakeland. It will be a great way to start off the New Year.
