7TH ANNUAL RACING FAMILY FUNDRAISER SET FOR OCT 30

EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK TO HOST THIS YEAR'S EVENT

by Bill Green

After months of negotiations, the 7th Annual Racing Family Fundraiser will be held at East Bay Raceway Park.

Last years Track Tug-O-War event saw East Bay take the crown and the opportunity to hold the annual event at their facility. So on October 30th, 2005 from Noon till 6 PM you'll need to be at East Bay Raceway Park.

The 6th Annual Racing Family Fundraiser was held at Quaker Steak & Lube on 49th Street, Pinellas Park, FL. The racers and fans of Central Florida racing heard the talk about moving the event into the Tampa area for 2005. The other local tracks seemed to warm to the idea slowly, but have now become very supportive and it appears that many of central Floridas tracks will be supporting the event.

After two years of Hurricane relief collections across the state of Florida and across the nation, it will be tough to eclipse the $11 thousand and $13 thousand dollar fundraiser's of past years. But, Racers Helping Racers president Terry Scampton has vowed that things will be different. In the past we tried to fill a fund account at each of our main local tracks, but those local track accounts have topped out at $10,000 each and have dictated a change in business. One hundred percent of the funds collected will continue to go directly to help local racers in need. We will do that by holding the money in a new Racers Helping Racers account for distribution directly to racers in need from our own officials and volunteers.

Terry continued to explain the changes adding, We will also be looking into funding a Scholarship Program that would mirror or at least have the same affect on local racers lives as did the very popular Q Motorsports Family Scholarship Awards Program. As Leonard McCue moves his program to the University of South Florida, we feel the void left behind is something we might be able to fill. Although the particulars are not totally worked out, Racers Helping Racers will continue to do all it can to help racing families affected by tragedies on and off the track, as well as the educational needs of our junior race fans.

This years 7th Annual Racing Family Fundraiser will be held October 30th, 2005 from 12 Noon to 6 PM at East Bay Raceway Park. Displays will include race cars of all kinds, classic cars, motorcycles, and other specialty vehicles. The annual racing memorabilia auction will be held in the Hall of Fame Cafe. Plus, LIVE Music in the form of recording group, Nashville Express from 2-5 PM.

Also, NASCAR's Bass Pro Shop MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be on the big screen TV for all our diehard Nextel Cup fans. Don't forget the games, activities, face painting and more for the kids in the Kids Corral, plus a big 50/50 raffle with cash prize and hundreds of old friends you haven't seen in a while.

For more information, call Terry Scampton at 727-544-2680
