Choquette And Scofield Split Desoto AACS Super Late Model Twin 100 Wins

Bradenton, FL - August 20, 2005 - On a hot evening which was made a little more bearable by a nice breeze from the North, Jeff Choquette and Jeff Scofield split 100 lap feature wins in AACS Super Late Model competition at Desoto Super Speedway.

Choquette prevailed as the fastest qualifier in time trials with a lap around the 3/8 mile high banked paved oval in 14.75 seconds.

The roll of the di to determine the starting lineup for the first 100 lapper came up zero, therefore there was be no inversion of the field. The starting grid would be lined up from the fastest to the slowest qualifiers back through the field.

Choquette and Scofield were side by side in the front row for the start. When the green flag waved Choquette battled it out side by side throughout most of the first lap with Scofield edging out front into the lead coming off of turn four.

Choquette fought back getting under Scofield on lap two for the lead. Scofield never let Choquette get very far away, however.

Between laps 10 and 20 Scofield took a few looks outside of Choquette, but couldn't complete a move for the lead.

Wayne Jefferson and Chris Fontaine closed in on Scofield by lap 25 and now it was a four car race for the top spot.

A caution came out on lap 25 when John Spadavecchia, Jr. spun in turn two. Troy McNabb, who was running fifth, retired to the pits for the night. James Glover also went pitside, but returned before the field went back to green.

Choquette was strong on the restart and quickly put some distance between himself and Scofield.

Spadavecchia and Sean LeMaster spun in uniset between turns three and four to bring out a yellow on lap 39.

Scofield had a much better restart and was right on Choquette's bumper. They managed to pull away from the rest of the field in what now was a two car race.

LeMaster spun again in turn four on lap 56 to put the field under caution once again.

This time on the restart Choquette got another great jump and pulled out to a several car length lead over Scofield.

To Scofield's credit, he didn't give up and by lap 67 he was back on Choquette's tail.

The right front suspension broke on the racer driven by Andrew Dyndul and the caution had to be brought out on lap 70.

As the field went back to green Scofield managed to stay right up with Choquette with Jefferson and Fontaine in close pursuit. It was back to a four car race.

In the last two laps the adrenaline was flowing for Choquette and Scofield as they begain to distance themselves from Jefferson and Fontaine.

Scofield made a last ditch run on Choquette going to the bottom of the track coming off turn four getting under Choquette. Choquette was able to outrace Scofield "drag racing style" to the checkers. Jefferson, Fontaine and Richie Anderson rounded out the top five.

The roll of the di prior to the second 100 lap feature failed to produce the numbers one, two or three so the line up would be the exact same as the first feature. Choquette and Scofield were once again along side each other for the start.

Choquette outgunned Scofield to take a lead which he held on to throught lap 41.

Scofield got under Choquette going down the backstretch on lap 42. The twosome dueled it out side by side going into turns three and four with Scofield taking the lead coming off turn four. Once in the lead Scofield was able to maintain about a 1/4 straightaway lead down to the finish.

This race produced very little action as nose to tail racing prevailed throughout.

Scofield was your winner with Choquette, 2nd; Jefferson, 3rd; Richie Anderson, 4th and Jeff Sloan, 5th.

Bobby Baldwin set a precident for himself being the fastest qualifier for the very first time in qualifying for Open-wheel Modified feature. Baldwin cruised around the speedway in 15.28 seconds.

The roll of the di came up six so for the third time on the night the field would be lined up according to time trial times, fastest back to slowest.

Bobby Baldwin and Robby McAuliffe made up the front row. McAuliffe shot into the lead and never looked back for a green to checker win in the 75 lap feature.

Dale Shelton moved into second by Baldwin on lap 2 while McAuliffe motored away to a 1/4 straightaway lead.

With ten laps down it was McAuliffe, Shelton, Baldwin, Wayne Jefferson and Pat Nanney in the top five.

Billy Mowery made his way into the top five during lap 12 as Nanney began to rapid fade back into the field. He was suddenly back to tenth by the time the lap was completed.

At the 1/3 mark (25 laps) it was McAuliffe, Shelton, Baldwin, Jefferson and Mowery.

On lap 36 Mike Hinegardner, Jr. got by Sean McLaughlin for eighth. One lap later Shelton night went up in smoke as the engine blew in his #51 mount. Jefferson headed for the pits never to return on lap 42.

At lap 50 the running order was McAuliffe, Baldwin, Mowery, Timmy Moore and Ralph Bowman and that is the way it remained to the checkers.

McAuliffe's margin of victory was about a half straightway over Baldwin.
