Steve Dorer Wins Big In All American Challnge Series

By Rick Anges

Bradenton, Fl. The qualifying was tight for race #3 of the Hoosier Cup All-American Challenge Series race #3. Chris Fontaine beat out points leader Wayne Anderson 14.56 to a 14.57.

With the field inverted 4 rows from the roll of the die 2004 rookie of the year Richie Anderson and Steve Dorer made up the front row. Anderson jumped out to the early lead with Dorer on his back bumper.

Anderson lead several laps but the car slid high allowing Dorer to get under him, Dorer took over the top spot with Anderson being hung on the high side. Anderson slid back to mid pack and finished 15th on the field.

The racing was mostly nose to tail with Dorer showing the way with Marty Pierce and "Big" Wayne Morris in third. Just after the half way mark Jeff Choquette began making his move. The field went three wide as Choquette made his way around Wayne Anderson and Jeff Scofield to move into the fourth spot. Scofield suffered mechanical problems falling 18th.

Morris and Choquette put on a good show for the 3rd spot. The two made contact going into turn one; Morris had to let up allowing Choquette to take the spot.

Chris Fontaine also was able to make his way through the field and was soon battling Choquette for the third spot. Pierce who was running in second when late in the race his car slowed ending his night and putting him in the 16th spot.

As the laps wound down it looked like Fontaine was ready to make his move on Choquette when a broken rear end put him in the pits finishing in 14th.

Dorer was never challenged as took his first win of the season. Dorer was the third different winner in as many races. Choquette took the second spot, points leader ended up third, "We tried a lot of different things with the car tonight but went the wrong, Im just happy to come out of here with third" Anderson said after the race. Darryl Shelnut ran a strong fourth and Scot Walters took fifth.

Pyramid Employers Pure Stocks Survival was the name of the game in the Pure Stock feature. From the drop of the green flag the cars were going three and four wide. There were several hard crashes during the 25-lap feature but none was as bad as the one involving Mark Zsolzai was. On a restart after a yellow Zsolzai went head on into the turn three retaining wall. The crowd held their breath as the safety crew took Zsolzai from his ride. After a thorough check out the driver was ok.

When the smoke cleared it was "Ravishing" Rick Hurley coming from mid pack to take the win, James Nanney roared to a strong second, Duane Campbell dominated the outside groove and took third, fourth went to Ken Smith and fifth John Brown.

Mini-Stocks It was Todd Freed Jr. hitting the setup as he dominated the mini-stock feature event, Buddy Traylor made his return to the "High Banks" taking a solid second, third went to "Gentleman" Jon Bailey, fourth was Dean Butrum and in fifth Wendy Shurtleff.

Outlaw Modifieds

Mike Bean took the lead and never looked back as he took the trophy in the Outlaw feature. Second across was Raymond "Super Frog" Jones, third went to Billy Campbell, fourth was Cliff Steinman and fifth Doug Hopper.
