GOVERNOR BUSH DECLARES FEBRUARY 20 CHRIS ECONOMAKI DAY

By Stewart Doty

Florida Governor Jeb Bush has declared February 20, the day of the Daytona 500 automobile race at Daytona International Speedway, Chris Economaki Day, it was announced today, during ceremonies at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary.

Twenty-fourth District Senator Bill Posey, on the Governor's behalf, announced the declaration as auto race promoters gathered at the 32nd RPM Promoters Workshops, an annual convention for the business people who operate America's weekly scheduled race tracks.

Economaki is the publisher Emeritus of National Speed Sport News, the national newspaper covering motorsports. The 2005 season is Economaki's 51st year as an auto racing journalist.

In addition to publishing National Speed Sport News, Economaki is a television commentator, and was a member of the broadcast team when the Daytona 500 was televised the first time.

He is widely considered the country's most knowledgeable racing journalist. Economaki delivered the keynote address at the event.

The Promoters Workshop, which convened today, is the second of two Workshops produced each Winter by Racing Promotion Monthly, the idea newsletter for auto racing promoters. It follows an earlier Western Workshop held in Reno, NV, this past December.

It is the 89th produced by the publication since 19XX. More than 1400 track operators, their employees, and industry leaders attended last year's Workshop Series.

The RPM Workshops and Racing Promotion Monthly, are produced with the support of K&K Insurance Group, Inc. and Hoosier Racing Tire.
