October 11, 2004 Cirtus County Speedway Runs Triple Fifty by Larry MacMillan Clint Foley has been making noise in Florida Mini Stocks recently; wins at Citrus. Storm weary race drivers and fans were greeted with pleasant weekend weather for a change and saw another banner night of stock car action at Citrus County Speedway Saturday night. Over 130 race cars registered in 6 divisions to take on the fast 3/8ths mile oval and it was non stop action from Super Late Model time trials to the final checkered flag at 11 pm just ahead of the local curfew. In the Hurricane Frances delayed Late Model Triple 50 Wayne Anderson turned in a fast qualifying time of 13.446 seconds over young rookie Daniel Webster at 13.546 and former L.M. Champion Herb Neumann Jr. who stopped the clocks at 13.618 seconds. Anderson pulled the 10 pill, inverting the top 10, putting Dale Sanders on the pole with Hubert Simmons on the outside of the first row for the first of three back to back 50 lap races. When the green fell Sanders won the race to turn one and held on to the lead for the first 16 laps before Mike Bresnahan moved from his seventh starting spot to take over the lead through lap 41 when his handling went away, allowing Herb Neumann to take over the lead and the $1,000 winner’s purse. Ironically the top three qualifiers finished in the top three spots with Daniel Webster nailing a second place finish over Wayne Anderson. After a 15 minute break to tweak their race cars Neumann pulled the six pill inverting the top six finishers in race #1 with only 14 cars making the start. Wayne Anderson wasted little time moving from fourth to first in lap 10. The field went non stop for 45 laps before the only caution of the race came out. Anderson went on to win the $1,250 winners purse with Herb Neumann right on his rear bumper at the checkers followed by Mike Bresnahan, Daniel Webster and Raymond Lovelady. Another 15 minute break and the green flew again for the third and final 50 lap run in Citrus County Speedways first ever Late Model Triple 50. Anderson’s pill draw inverted the top 8 with only eleven of the original registrants able to make the start for the finale. Young Daniel Webster was the star of this show moving from 7th to the point in short order and holding off the charges of Herb Neumann, Wayne Anderson, Mike Bresnahan and Danny Johnson giving this young 18 year old rookie his first ever Super Late Model win and taking home the top prize of $1,500 for his outstanding effort. The Super Stock division continues to grow and saw 26 cars start their 25 lap feature. John Makula took the point right from the get go and held on for 10 laps before Stephen Anderson managed to move from his fourth starting position to set the pace right on to the checkers for his third win of the season. Mike Bell moved from 24th to finish second on Anderson’s bumper at the start finish line followed by 19th starter Travis Nichols, John Makula and point leader JoJo Viverito. Clint Foley has been making noise all over the state in some great runs in the Mini Stock Challenge and he came to Citrus loaded for bear on Saturday night. In only his second appearance of 2004 he marched through most of the 24 car Mini Stock field to take his first win of the season at this venue where he used to run regularly. Chris Hooker has to get the hard charger award for the night moving from 24th to second when the checkers flew. Dan Smith finished third ahead of outside pole sitter George Neumann and rare visitor Brian Dorer. Hobby Stocker Curtis Neumann has led in every race that he has competed in this season but the motor gremlins have haunted him for the past several months putting him in the DNF column more times than he cares to think about. He finally got his problems straightened out and went on to take his fifth win of the season over a 27 car field Saturday night. Bobby Taylor was on a mission after winning last week but despite coming from 27th to the front in the final few laps he still had to settle for second. The second place finish did put him in the lead for the 2004 point’s championship though after Tommy Smith finished 17th. Rounding out the top five were Richie Smith, David Holland and Curtis Flanagan. Wayne Heater logged his third feature win in the Thunder Stock 25 lap main. “Big” Dave Ross relinquished the lead to Heater at the half way point and was chased across the finish line by Gary Budek, Michael Bocija and Steven Stinedurf. Shane Guy was the overall winner in the dual 4 Cylinder Bomber race followed by Daniel McClain, Larry Chumany, Donnie Guy and Dwayne Guy. Dan Sanderson picked up his third win in the regular Bomber division followed by Clark Pittsley, Jim Herrington and Rusty Adams. Next Saturday features the Modifieds for their final race of the year plus the Sportsman 40 makeup, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks in a 50 lap race, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers.
