Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway host "After Disaster FREE Fun Night" October 8th and 9th

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla. (October 5, 2004) August 13 was the day that Hurricane Charley came into the state of Florida as a Category 4 and changed the lives of Floridians by his destruction to the West Coast. Then it was Hurricane Frances who took her sweet time to get out of our fair state. And last but not least, Hurricane Jeanne who decided that Frances had a pretty good path to follow. Racing in the state was stopped, tracks were damaged, lives were changed, homes and shops were lost.

Stress has been a keyword in all our lives since August 13th. People are short on money and long on nerves on-end. Therefore Team FASCAR and Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway would like to recognize the people who helped us in our times of need. We would like to see less stress on faces and more smiles if only for a night.

This Friday, October 8th, and Saturday, October 9th, we hope to do just that, bring a smile to your face if only for the night by having a "After Disaster FREE Fun Night" by opening our grandstands to our fans. There will be no charge money-wise, hopefully just smiles.

At Orlando SpeedWorld on Friday, the Sportsman division will go for 50 laps. These guys put on one heck of a show and with 50 laps and $500 up, expect to see a good number of them from SpeedWorld and other tracks in the state. Along with the Sportsman 50 will be Super Lates, Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock.

If that is not enough to make you come out and smile, the TBARA Winged Sprints will put on an exhibition race for their first appearance at SpeedWorld this year on October 15th. These guys and gal fly and if you like to feel the earth move, well, these Winged Sprints can do it. Plus see the unveiling of the new Orlando Dodge SpeedWorld pace truck and she is a beauty!!!

Real Rock 101one, 740 the Team, American Classified, Coca Cola and Budweiser are all associate sponsors for the night's events on October 8th.

New Smyrna Speedway and sponsors Bright House Networks, Coca Cola, Daytona Dodge, Chrysler and Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, Volusia Pennysaver, and Advance Discount Auto Parts will sponsor the "After Disaster FREE Fun Night" Saturday, October 9th. Fans will see a 50 lap Super Stock race, Super Lates, Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock.

There will be plenty of free gifts and merchandise from area businesses plus the Barney Car will be there. And we all know how kids love Barney!!!

Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, October 8th and 9th, for some hurricane blues cure. Come join us at Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway for some exciting short track racing and plenty of fun and excitement!!

Grandstands will open at 6 p.m. at both tracks with racing action at 8 p.m. at Orlando SpeedWorld and 7:30 p.m. at New Smyrna Speedway.
