Speedworld Set For Motorized Mayhem

Crash-A-Rama Returns to Orlando

by Dave Westerman

It happens just twice a year and plays to a packed house. Yes it's Crash-A-Rama time once again at Orlando Speedworld and the speedway is gearing up for a sellout crowd as usual.

Trying to take advantage of better weather, the event has been moved up from it's traditional first week in June to mid-May. That seems to be a good idea as the forecast call for partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 70's at "race" time Friday night.

The official rundown of events includes heats and features for School Bus Figure Eights, a race featuring cars towing boats and pop-up camper trailers, a reverse race, flagpole race, chain race, and a roll-over contest.

Also on tap are a pair of demolition derbies, one for full-size V-8 powered cars and one for compacts with each paying $1,000 to win.

The Extreme Motorcycle Jumpers will also perform and to cap off the evening, Doug Rose and his Green Mamba jet car are expected to burn up anything they can get their hands on.

Grandstand gates will open at 6PM and spectators are urged to get to the track early as it is expected to be standing room only by the start of Crash-A-Rama at 8PM.

Due to the Crash-A-Rama festivities and the cleanup thereafter, there will be no racing Saturday night at Orlando Speedworld.

Speedworld will be back to regular racing action on May 21-22 with the FASTRUCKS/FASTKIDS joining the Friday FASCAR program on the 21st and the Mod Lites and Pro Challenge cars joining the RE/MAX LEGENDS, Bandoleros and Hurricanes on the 22nd
