Citrus County Speedway Winter Spectacular III Lineup | by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 1/8/09) - The lights have been out and the engines have been silent for a month at Citrus County Speedway.
On Saturday January 17th that will all change and the second leg of Winter Spectacular III will roar into action kicking off 2004. Promoter Billy Hooker announced the schedule for the Winter Special this week and it should give some insight as to what to expect for the coming racing season.
The Super Late Models will time trial to qualify for a starting spot in the 125 lap main event which should give the vacationing hot shoes something to get excited about.
Scott Grossenbacher managed to break the track qualifying record in the first leg of Winter Spectacular III back in December and the Super Late Models are getting closer and closer to breaking into the 12 second mark. Herb Neumann Jr. will have his hands full in his effort to make it two in a row after winning the December event.
The word is out and the best in Florida should be showing up for the big money and bragging rights as the 2004 season gets on track.
Joining the Late Models in the action will be the Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks in 50 lap feature races. The Open Wheel Lites will take on the 3/8ths mile fast track in a 40 lap feature event and the Thunder Stocks and 4 cylinder Bombers will round out a full afternoon and evening of racing action.
The first race of the regular 2004 season will give the racers two more weeks to make preparations for the February 7th opening of the 49th season at Citrus County Speedway. The first leg of the TBARA four event 2004 opener will kick off the season again at Citrus and these quick rockets will blast their way into the mid 12 second circuits of the speedway and kick off the season with a bang. There will be a full race card added with all the top runners from 2003, drivers who left for a season or two returning, and some new participants getting their feet wet in the first four weeks of action.
The track shuts down for the entire month of March for electrical repairs and the Citrus County Fair. The season will restart on April 3rd 2004. The new season schedule is being worked on and should be published by the Winter Spectacular III race to include dates for specials for all the regular divisions. Sportsman will run once a month for 40 lap features with Figure 8s getting more action and quite a few specials are being worked into the schedule. There will be two points systems with the regulars on pretty much the same set up as last year and the Late Models will have their own point system.
Drivers and fans are invited to help kick off the 49th racing season at Citrus County Speedway, Saturday night January 17th when the Super Late Models and six other divisions turn it on in the second leg of Winter Spectacular III.
