Ray Wheeler Wins Late Model at Columbia Motorsports Park

by Marty Little

LAKE CITY, FLA. - Ray Wheeler powered past Donnie Oden on
lap 17 and ran to his first career late model stock
victory Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Oden got a good jump at the drop of the initial green
flag and set sail but Wheeler had his car working to
perfection and was not to be denied in topping the
25 lap event. Richard Ferry, in a borrowed car, took
runner-up money over Oden, Bubba Norton and Sam Clark.

The Florida modifieds ended up with a short field of
cars but third generation driver Max Mock, a former go
kart ace, sped to his first career modified victory in
the 12 lap run. Gene Owen collected second spot ahead
of James Feagle.

Ford mounted Dale Rogers was the early leader in the 20
lap street stock finale until Tim Conrad took command
but a blown engine ended his effort and by lap seven
Gale Grayer was the man on the point. Grayer never
looked back and scored the win over Charles Seroki,
Rogers, Brian Wheeler and Ronnie Crawford.

Matt Stafford took the lead in the 20 lap pure stock
main on lap three hustled to the win over former
champion William Jerkins. Early leader John Roling
crossed the stripe third with Jason Parker and Dewey
McClellan rounding out the top five.

The visiting motorcycle engined mini late models saw
Mike Carrig the winner over David Carrig and David
Rader.
