McLeod Makes it Two-In-A-Row in A.A.C.S. at DeSoto

By Rick Anges

(KNS)Race number four of the All American Challenge Series Super Late Models at DeSoto Super Speedway was just as exciting as the previous three. When Dave Pletcher #75 blew a motor in qualifying this put the pressure on Jeff Scofield in the #07 as the two were tied going into the race. Mike Abbott was the surprise fast qualifier in his #23 showing he knew his way around the high-banks. But with the roll of the die Joe Boyd #5 and #12 Justin Drawdy were on the front row of the 125-lap feature race.

When the green dropped it was Boyd who took the initial lead but Drawdy was right on his tail and eventually got around to take the lead. Drawdy was out like a cannon and behind him there was a serious battle for the second spot with Boyd and last race winner #78 B.J.McLeod. Jimmy Cope was also in on the mix for a lot of the race but could never get by but staying in the top five.

Billy Bigley Jr. #5x was making his way through the pack but got tangled up with another car on the front stretch causing major suspension damage ending his night.

Late in the race Boyd seemed to have the car hooked up and was gaining on Drawdy but suddenly his ride went quite and he lost all power. Fortunately it wasn’t the high dollar engine but the ignition coil that went. Boyd was heard later stating that he would be installing a back-up system.

When the green flew again McLeod put the hammer down and flew past Drawdy and took the lead without looking back and claiming his second A.A.C.S. victory in a row. Drawdy was once again the bridesmaid getting his third second place in a row. Shane Sawyer #38 brought his mount home in one piece and took an impressive third in his first race with the series.
McLeod thanked “God and his parents for letting him due what he loves.”

The All American Challenge Series next race will be May 11th and should be a rip-roaring event like the last four.

In other races;

Mini-Stocks
Once again Jessie Dutilly #30 manhandled the rest of the field and took his eighth win of the year in the Mini-Stock division. William Slack #20 took second with Arlin Pope #98 crossing the stripe in third.

Pure Stocks

Tim Garrod #5 was a jubilant winner in the pure stock feature jumping in the arms of his father in winners circle. Bob Petrilli #4 took second and teammate Mark Piklesimer #6 was third. A post race altercation occurred when the #3 of Peggy Hurst who was taken out near the end of the race and mistook Piklesimer for it, pushed the #6 out of the winners circle while Mark was being interviewed. The crowd was on its feet as Hurst lit her tires up pushing the big ford. Hurst was later Dqed for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Cowboy Cadillac’s

Don VanAcker #33 Ford roared from mid pack and took the win in the Full Sized pick up truck category. Buck Wilson #46 in a Chevy took the second spot and third went to Clint Roberts #95 who made it a big three top three with his Dodge on his first night out in the truck.

Open Wheel Modifieds

Dodge was the winner gain as Pat Nanney #60 in a wild one, took the trophy in the Open Wheel Modified division ahead of Phil Morrison #63 and early race leader #92 Steve Perez. Several top drivers were taken out including Bobby Dixon in the familiar yellow #205 who smacked the wall hard flattening the suspension on the car. Also local favorite Rocco Ranallo #67 was involved with the #57 rookie Timmy Moore landing on top of his car. Both drivers were ok and amazingly Ranallo was able to pull away and finish the race.

Street Stocks

Chet Roberts #69 held off a hard charging #77 Scott Woodland to take the win in the street stock feature. Third went to #10 Matt Scheffler.

Cliff Bifaro #12 was able to survive the carnage after an early race spin to take the sportsman feature. Steve Black #8 crossed the line in second followed by the #82 of Buddy Brown.

Legends

Ray Sasser #8 took the win in the Legends division with Jason Reismen #25 in second and Dale Horne #20 in third.

Don’t forget that all the racing action you missed last weekend will be T.V. this week on WTOG UPN 44 Sunday at 1am after the races as Scott Hawkins and Rick Anges bring you “DESOTO SUPER SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT.”
