Blue-Grey 100 Modifieds At Columbia Motorsports Park

By Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Local driver Larry Martin used a front row strarting spot to good advantage and led all 100 circuits to win Sunday afternoon's 11th annual Blue-Grey 100 for Florida modifieds at Columbia Motorsports Park. By virtue of his win in the first qualifying heat Martin started the century run from the pole position and got a jump on south Florida invader Joe Winchell who was the other front row starter. These two began to distance themselves from the balance of the 27 car field but some good battles developed further back in the pack. A yellow waved on lap 73 as Gary Southard and former track champion J.F. McClellan tangled with Southard done for the day. As the laps wound down McClellan made a run up the outside but lost traction and had to settle for fifth. Kelly Lawrence checkered third followed by Jeremy Gerstner and McClellan.

In the companion 35 lap street stock feature it was Nick Reid the winner when apparent victor Gale Grayer ran out of gas with five laps remaining after building a huge lead. Brad Fiene and Ray Wheeler trailed at the stripe.

Curtis Davis, substituting for his father, L.H. Davis, won the 25 lap pure stock main ahead of Harry Stickle and early leader Marty Wood. The 50 lap Fastruck feature went to Todd Bontrager over Jeff Firestein.
