"New attutude" highlights action at Bronson Speedway

by Gil Peck

BRONSON, Fla. (Sept. 1, 2001) - The second night of new management at Bronson Motor Speedway's " action track" saw plenty of faced paced action and fun and prizes for the fans and drivers alike. Mike Cope and Tommy Dunford have brought an injection of no-nonsense professionalism and fun to the famed high banks of Bronson Motor Speedway. The DWARF CARS stormed into town from all over Florida to bring the fans some of the best action available anywhere. Zephyrhill's John Godwin notched the win in the twenty lap feature with points leader Allen Davis in hot pursuit for second. Allen was returning from a hard crash last month that left his little 34 Ford Coupe torn up pretty good. He had it all sorted out Saturday and gave Godwin all he could handle.

PURE STOCKS

Don't let anyone tell you you can"t win in a 1976 Monte Carlo in the PURE STOCK division. Doug Webster had a strong run in his 25 year old yellow # 72 entry and one the first of two " double features" for the division. The car is well prepared every week and has been getting stronger all season long . Mickey Burns gave chase in the first feature and was second, while Donnie Roberts returned for a well-earned third place in the event.

In the second 20-lap event, Jason Holbrook brought home another popular win in his # 17 Camaro and Krystal Batson was once again nibbling on his heels for the win. She's had a " taste" of victory lane and she wants to be there again! The action in this popular division is fast paced and fun to watch. They run every Saturday night at Florida's " action track".

MINI-STOCK

Jeff Stalnaker Jr. bested Josh Hars for the win in this division's 20 lap event. "I really want to thank my Dad (Jeff Sr.) and uncle Charlie for helping me get this car prepared for tonite. Josh (Hars) even helped me with the tow to the track and I am very grateful to all of them for their help," he told this writer after the race. Larry Goolsby was third in the event after a hard charge. Several times on the re-start he found himself glued to Har's bumper, but couldn't make the pass. "The car was a handful tonight," but we'll be back next week for more," he said. These mighty four bangers really put on a show each and every Saturday and some of the finishes have been near "photo" ones.

SUPER STOCK

Wesley Keller returned in style driving Arthur Conquest's Ace Hardware/Bronson Lube entry. He won the feature event as he substituted for the injured Arthur Conquest. "I'm on the mend and can't wait for next year," said Arthur. "Wes did a fine job in the car tonight." Doc Batson was second and Rob Cooper had a great run of his own in his beautifully prepared #98 from Bronson.

The "Thunder and Lightning" LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN cars return to the speedway this Saturday night. Several top drivers from around the state of Florida will be there to challenge the Bronson veterans. Roger Damron, pilot of the # 76 Monte Carlo is excited about the challenge. "We'll be ready for 'em," he exclaimed. It will be a furious dash for cash so be sure to be with us when these guys battle it out for 50-laps. Get to the track early for prizes drawings and plenty of surprises. Gates open at 5:30 with practice until 6:45. Racing starts at 7:30 sharp. It is so good to see the refreshing changes taking place at the exciting "action track". It is definitely the place to be on Saturday night! See ya'll there.
