Powers takes 4th Cyclone Win at Hialeah

by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Rick Lutz had a smile from Lady Luck and with it captured the 25 lap street stock feature event Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway. Jeff Roberts led all 25 laps of the feature event but his Chevrolet Malibu could not make it past post-race inspection and Lutz, who thought he'd run second, got the victory. Point leader Gary Padula checkered second ahead of Craig Seewald's Thunderbird, Ron Wilson and Steve Godlewski.

Kenny Stong wrestled the lead from Steve Quick on lap 10 and sped to the victory in the 25 lap mini stock headliner. Strong used the outside lane enroute to the front and held off point leader Peter Lloyd for his first win this season. Eddie Lowery, Quick and Tommy Styer completed the top five finishers.

The 33 car cyclone field went 75 laps with Mike Powers scoring an impressive victory. Grabbing the lead on lap 10, Powers was never pressured enroute to his fourth win of the season. George Morales shook his sour luck to claim runner-up money ahead of early leader Chad Orth, Heather Lunsford and Jake Reedy.

Zane Reid easily topped the kid Hornet's event with a solid drive over Billy Harmon, Shannon Welter, Mike Blinco, Jr and Romeo Henderson II.

The visiting Mini Cup 20 lap feature fell to Chris Heilmann in front of Ryan Dundas, Mike Fillmore, Caesar Bacarella and Carlos Gonzales.

Among the upcoming events is the annual Alvin Lee Gosney Memorial for the late model sportsman cars on Saturday, Sept. 8.
