Charlotte Results 8/18

Despite an almost two hour rain delay, the fans were treated to another great night of racing action at the Charlotte County Speedway.

The Big Wheels Mini Stocks got the fun started with their twenty five lap feature race. The #2 car driven by Roger Garrett of N. Ft. Myers had the pole when the green flag dropped for the nine car field, but spinning around on lap two, he was in the back for the restart. #51 Rick Nastan of Sarasota had the point on the restart. Nastan held that position until lap nineteen when #56 Brian Richardson of N. Ft. Myers took over the lead. Richardson held on for the win with #51 Nastan in second. #94 Keith Risinger of Ft. Myers rounded out the top three for third place.

The Florida Dwarf Car Federation was up next for their thirty lap feature. With twenty one cars lined up, #40 Alain Paradis of Miramar sat on the pole and held that position for the one caution flag race. That one caution came on lap thirteen when the #18 car of Dennis Diehl from West Palm Beach smacked the wall hard coming out of turn four. Diehl was all right, but the car sustained heavy damage to the right side and ended up in the pits for the night. #40 Paradis, still on point for the restart, saw the green flag fly for the remainder of the race as he held on for the win. #27 Alan Cote of N. Miami Beach took second and #22 Mark Landis of Delray Beach took third.

Ten cars lined up for the Cat Country Limited Late Models fifty lap feature race with #62 Buzz Martin of Lehigh Acres on the pole. By lap five #59 John Garrett if Ft. Myers had moved around Martin to take the lead. #64 Chris Libak of Ft. Myers and #3 Harold Cannon got together on lap sixteen bunching up the pack for a restart with #59 Garrett still on point. #62 Martins night ended on lap twenty after getting a little too high coming out of turn four and sliding into the wall. The last caution came out on lap forty eight as leaders #59 Garrett and #29 Mike Hovis of N. Ft. Myers tried to make their way around lapped traffic, setting up a two lap shoot out for the checkered flag. #59 Garrett took the win followed by #29 Hovis in second and #51 Richie Anderson of N. Ft. Myers in third.

The Lees Auto Repair Road Warriors twenty five lap feature got underway with #97 Frank McIntosh of Lehigh Acres on the pole. The action halted when a four car pile up brought out the all volunteer broom crew on lap three. #52 Donna Connolly of Lehigh Acres was out in front when the green flag flew once again. #M00 Bob Williams of Naples took the lead on lap nine and was still out in front when #4 Bruce Allen spun on lap nineteen, ending up in the pits. #61 Chris Oncken of Ft. Myers and #27 Terry Price of Punta Gorda put on a good show as they battled over third place for the last few laps of the race. #M00 Williams held on to take the win followed by #73 Del Beckner of Naples in second and #27 Price in third.

Fifteen cars were waiting for the green flag to drop on the Lees Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks with #13 Randy Miller of Cape Coral on the pole. After a gotta race attitude and five restarts, flagman Greg Roeback finally got the drivers calmed down for a good clean start. #13 Miller was still out in front on lap four when #18A Craig Amboyan spun in turn two bringing out a caution. #56 Walt Korkiner of Cape Coral took the lead on lap seven and held it until lap eighteen when #99 Mark Collins, also of Cape Coral, took the spot. #22 Kevin Murphy of Ft. Myers lost a tire on lap twenty two, collecting #2 David Fischer of Naples and bunching up the pack for the final laps of the race. #99 Collins was out in front for the restart and held position to take the win. #56 Korkiner took second followed by #31X Elbert Butts of Arcadia in third.

As race fans and drivers go, you cant find any more devoted than the ones we have at Charlotte County. Even though Mother Nature held us up for a while, we still had a good night of fast and exciting stock car racing.
