Powers Claims Cyclone Win at Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. - Former street stock champion Rick Lutz grabbed the lead from Ron Wilson on lap three and hustled to the win in the 25 lap feature event Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway. Point leader Gary Padula gave chase but settled for second behind Lutz with Mikael Kohut third, Wilson fourth and Ed Leeke fifth.

Peter Lloyd copped his first mini stock feature of the season with a good drive in the 25 lap main. Young Thomas Cedpea led to lap 12 when Lloyd took command and never looked back. Kenny Strong finished a close second ahead of Eddie Lowery, Tommy Styer and Richard Thomas.

Cyclone action saw Mike Powers get a good jump on Tony Crowder on a lap 22 restart and go on to win the 25 lap feature. Crowder claimed runner-up money over Heather Lunsford, Roger Bohannon and Bryan Cook.

Victor Leo topped Mark Cornett and Lunsford in the 100 lap enduro while Mike Harrsion was the best of the visiting mini cup cars ahead of Ryan Dundas and Carlos Gonzales. The Tampa Bay Area Racing Assn sprint cars will not appear on August 18 for the rain make-up with the date rescheduled to November 3rd.
