Hialeah Back in Action 7/28

by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Hialeah Speedway was back in action Saturday evening after nearly a month off due to weather and a mid-season break and it was veteran Danny Maddox claiming the win in the 12 lap late model sportsman headliner. David Weaver led early before he and Maddox swapped the top spot several times in the abbreviated run. Weaver checkered second only feet shy of the victory with Ricky Rogero and Bobby Shelton next to the stripe.

Gary Padula proved the best in the street stock 25 lap main. Craig Seewald had his new Ford out front early but Padula got past on lap 10 and was never headed after that. Seewald claimed runner-up money over Rick Lutz, Bob Hogan and Jeff Roberts.

By the luck of the draw mini stock dominator David Russell started his Toyota from the pole and led every lap for an easy victory in the 25 lap contest. Peter Lloyd had a good drive for second money ahead of Kenny Strong, Tim Jones and Tommy Styer.

The always wild cyclone headliner saw 28 cars take the green. Mike Blinco led early but it was Roger Bohannon out front on lap eight and he never looked back in taking his sixth win of the season in the 25 lap main. Blinco checkered in second over Bruce Moerlins, Roger Pfau and George Morales. Always exciting Doug Capps topped the visiting Mini Cup racers with a good finish ahead of Chris Heilmann and Carlos Gonzales.

Other wins went to Bohannon in the special bowling event, Shannon Welter in the kid's hornet feature and Michelle Blinco in the ladies powder puff.

On tap this week (8-4) are the exciting TBARA winged sprint cars plus Hialeah's regular divisions.
