Dutilly 50 Lap Mini Winner at DeSoto

Jesse Dutilly of Bradenton had the fastest stock car on the track, set fast time and blazed to the checkered flag in the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Stock Mini shootout at DeSoto Speedway Saturday night. In his sixth feature win of the season, driving an '84 Toyota, Dutilly started 11th in the 50 lap feature. On lap 10 he took the low side going into turn three, passing Brian Richardson of Ft. Myers to claim the lead.

"This car is really fast, faster than I thought" said an exhausted Dutilly. "This thing was on a rail tonight." Sponsored by Integrity Transmissions, Dean's Tree Service, Mike Mink's Super Star Karaoke, Fred's Garage and Advanced Towing, Dutilly barely held off a newcomer to DeSoto Speedway, who placed second. "I'm real happy with it," said Richardson who raced at Charlotte County for seven years. "In warm-ups it was my first time ever on the track. This is a fast track and I'm still trying to figure it out. Jesse was untouchable tonight. I really appreciate everyone that helps me each week."

On lap 34 a caution flag brought out a restart. Eight of the 23 cars to take the green flag had lapped the rest of the field. On the restart Tommy Huffstutler of Baradenton got the jump and passed Richardson but it weasn't to last. Richardson came back to retake second placwe on lap 38. "I thought I had something for Jesse," Huffstutler said. "He got to the front before I did. But I finished the race and that's what matters. I want thank everyone that helps on the car. You can't imagine how much joy we get out of it."

DeSoto Speedway night of action also saw the American Daredevil, Tommy Pearson of Las Vegas, go down in flames in his second try for a new world record in the flaming dominoes. To perform the stunt six cars stood on their rear bumpers, balanced with two by fours, about 20 feet apart. Pearson roared toward them at more than 95 miles per hour hoping to slam through all six cars, tossing them up and over his own car. "The first time I tried it I didn't make it," Pearson said. "The fourth car hit my trunk and didn't go all the way over and the fifth came down on me. I was sore for a while after that."

Pearson failed again on his second attempt. With flames from the burning cars shooting 50 feet into the air Pearson came out of turn two slammed into the first car and stalled under the third. The last three cars fell on top of the daredevil. Fire and Rescue personnel rushed in and pulled Pearson from under the raging inferno. "I tried to keep going but all I could see was fire in the car," said an uninjured but shaken Pearson. "When I came in I knew I didn't have the speed coming out of the turn. I came down wrong but the cars were lit and I had to do it. I don't back out. I went for a hot ride."

Although Pearson tried the same stunt last year with six cars, this was the most dangerous for the stuntman. "When the cars came down they came down the wrong way," Pearson said. "I've had two or three on top of me but never three or four. The biggest danger in a stunt like this is getting burnt. But I came to put on a show. I hope to come back and try it again."

A special guest Stan Kolan of East Bay Raceway, was on hand to catch the show at DeSoto Speedway night. "This is my first trip to DeSoto Speedway," said the likeable track owner and President. "There is some excellent racing and very nice people. We've been rained out for a couple of weeks but East Bay has a big Wingless Sprint feature coming up this weekend." Kolan sponsored the Legends feature at DeSoto Speedway Saturday night and placed bonus money on the winners in other divisions.

In other races: Wallace Ramsey of Bradenton took the checkered flag and collected a $100 bonus from Kolan for the win in the Selective HR Solutions Sportsman. "James was the fastest car on the track," said Ramsey after his second feature win in a row. "We had a clock on him and watched him move through traffic. He really had something. A few more laps and it may have been different. I didn't know that lightning would strike twice in the same area. I got lucky again tonight." James Knight of Bradenton placed second and Gus Coorssen of Sarasota took third place.

Steve Perez recieved $100 bonus from Rick Anges and Jack Smith of KARNAC.com when he blazed to the winners circle in the Callaghan Tire Open Wheel Modifieds for his first ever feature win. "Just the winning is good enough," Perez said. "This is the first one and i can't say enough thanks to all those who have helped me." Rocco Rannallo of Bradenton, who won the $500 six lap dash-for-cash earlier in the race, placed second in the feature. J.R. Wade took third place.

Steve Gill of Sarasota collected the win in the Manatee Lumber Modified Minis. Clay Joseph of Bradenton placed second. Jason Kuyhendall of took third place. "This car is really fast in the center of the corners," Gill said. "I got the tires to stick and got a good run on them." Mark Gill of Bradenton took the win in the Pure Stock. David Yahraus of Sarasota placed second. Jessie Dutilly of Bradenton took third place.

Andy Logan also won $100 from KARNAC.com of West Palm Beach roared to the feature win in the Legends, edging out David Tart and Jason Reisman. "The car was really good tonight," Logan said. "I want to thank my crew chief Paul Cruz for everything he does."
