ADAMS GETS SECOND IN ROW IN EAST BAY SPRINTS

by Ken Sands
Tampa Florida, June 9, 2001 Pole sitter Jess Fordyce brought the 17 car starting Sprint field to Kenny Marshall's green flag, coming out of turn 2 it was Gene Lasker in his Central Florida Eye Institute #41 taking the lead. Lasker took the lead from his second row starting spot and held the top spot until 16 year old Casey Johnson who started back in row #4 powered his Harris Trucking / Sign Masters #31 to the front. Johnson appeared to be enroute to his first win of the 2001 season as he pulled away from the field, however with just 2 laps to go in the 25 lap main, Johnson got slowed by lapped traffic opening the door for Kenny Adams, who started along side Lasker in row 2, to get by Johnson. Johnson stayed low when Adams took his Blue Ribbon Farms #2a to the high side and got around the youngster. Adams held on for the win in the CBCI main, his second in a row and 7th of the season. Johnson held on for second with Lasker taking third. Sport Allen and Johnny Gilbertson rounded out the top 5.

In Late Models it was Phillip Cobb taking the lead from Roger Crouse on Lap 11 and easily cruising home the winner in the CBCI 25 lap main. Crouse held on for second over Bobby Alexander Sr., Donnie Tanner and David Schmauss.

The CBCI Limited Late Model main went to Jamie Burrows over Terry Gay, Ricky Land, Keith Simpson and Tom Zalys.

In the CBCI Mini Stock main it was Scotty Williams getting the win over Devin Dixon, Robert Douglas, William Hampton and Rich Livernois.

The 20 lap CBCI Limited Sprint Main was taken by Andy Kelley as he passed Tim George on the last lap. George held on for second over Darrin Miller, Steve Briant and Travis Bleimeister.

The CBCI Street Stock A Main went to Terry Bronson over Timmy Bronson, Steve Johnson, Jason Bronson and John Borders.

The CBCI Street Stock B Mainwent to former Fan Participation driver Tony Traina over Tim Spencer and Chad Smith.

The $500 to win Racecam Resource Dash for Cash for the Street Stocks went to Terry Bronson over Steve Johnson and Bruce Ponti. The C T Earle fastest man on foot race went to Late Model driver Phillip Cobb. Thanks to the fine folks at Corrugated Steel Buildings for their support of all divisions on this night.
