ADAMS BACK ON TOP IN EAST BAY SPRINTS

by Ken Sands
Kenny Adams of Malabar has not had a lot of luck lately at East Bay, being involved in wrecks his last 3 times he was here. As a result the former champion started outside the front row in the 25 lap SPRINT CAR main. Adams and Brandon Dover brought the 23 car starting field to Kenny Marshall's green flag, and by the time they reached turn 1 it was Adams out front and the rest as they say, is history.

Adams went virtually unchallenged although he never really pulled to a more than a 4 car length lead on the field, the real battle was for the runnerup spot between Casey Johnson, Sport Allen and Greg Leonard. When the checker fell it was Allen claiming the runnerup spot, Greg Leonard crossed the stripe in third, but was DQ'd for illegal tires, giving third to Casey Johnson. Johnny Gilbertson and Robbie Smith rounded out the top 5.

In LATE MODELS, Donnie Tanner and David Schmauss battled side by side for many laps, swapping the lead on each trip around the 1/3 mile dirt oval. With just one lap to go Schmauss went to dive under Tanner in turn 3 and spun, giving the hard fought battle to Tanner for his second win in a row. Jerry Rogers crossed the line in second, but was DQ'd for an illegal carb, giving second to Bob Peterson, followed by Tex Erskine, Ted Erskine and Frank Erskine Sr.

The LIMITED LATE MODEL main went to Roger Crouse over Raymond Rogers, Jeff Mathews, Jerry Rogers and David Simpson.

The Fast Lane OPEN WHEEL MODIFIED main went to Wayne Hammond over Jeff Mathews, John Bradley, Bobby Dixon and Bruce Watkins.

Devin Dixon and Scotty Williams battled side by side down to the last lap in the MINI STOCK main with Dixon taking the win over Williams, William Hampton, Scott Howard and Greg Pae.

The STREET STOCK A main went to Terry Bronson over Steve Johnson, Danny Paris, Timmy Bronson and Bryson Ryker. The STREET STOCK B Main went to Ron Pope over Eric Teal and Chad Smith. Pope and Teal were both deemed illegal, giving the win to Chad Smith over Tony Jackson and Chris Bookwalter. The holdover STREET STOCK B main went to Timmy Bronson over Gary Sheffield and Mike Gamache.

The C. T. Earle Fastest man on foot dash went to Greg Leonard over Kenny Adams.

In a special note, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to track announcer Jack Miller on his induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa.
